For those who are looking for a chic dining option where the food is incredible and the decor is oh-so Instagrammable, Maitrea can be found on a little cobbled lane that’s steps away from Prague’s Old Town Square (i.e. the spot where you’ll spy the Prague Astronomical Clock). Set over two floors, the decor of the Prague vegetarian restaurant (though several vegan and raw food options are also on the menu) is all pretty and pastel. The lower floor even features a glittering bar and trickling water feature.

Maitrea is one of the better-known vegetarian and vegan restaurants, especially due to its central location right next to the Old Town Square. It belongs to the same family of restaurants as Lehká hlava (Clear Head), another popular vegetarian spot in Prague. It serves a fully vegetarian menu of healthy food, made with quality ingredients. The dishes are all very varied, they don’t follow a particular cuisine as you could enjoy Mexican, Thai, Japanese, Italian, Czech – there’s something from all corners of the world!

Located near Old Town Square, this vegetarian site is a good place to escape the bustling Old Town of Prague. This space has two levels, the upper one is a bit squeezed but full of natural lighting. The bottom level is very spacious and adorned with decorations that include fountains, a fireplace, and elegant designer low lighting which create a warm and welcoming environment.

If you’re in the market for a combo gluten free and vegetarian friendly restaurant, then MAITREA seems like the best place – even better than Vegan’s Restaurant, in my opinion.

When you think of food in the Czech Republic, vegetarian doesn’t immediately come to mind. However, there are a number of good vegetarian restaurants and Maitrea is top of the list. Maitrea is homey (but not in a hippy way) that reminds me a lot of college towns back in the USA (and my own Boulder, Colorado), but without the rowdiness.

It’s a sister branch of the Lehka Hlava restaurant near Old Town Square, beautifully designed in a feng shui style, set off by Buddha statues and Tibetan mantras. The menu and food are excellent and basically copy the Lehka Hlava restaurant. Mains range from 120 CZK to 200 CZK or try a special lunch set menu.

Maitrea is more of a place to linger over your dinner and enjoy the atmosphere. The interior is quite nice, all like sea-shell lamp shades and Buddha statues. They have a small standard seasonal menu that changes seasonally with the veggies, and a daily menu that changes daily, as one would expect it would.

Just a hop away from the Old Town Square, Maitrea is one of Prague’s proper plant-based restaurants, with vegetarian menus and a huge range of vegan dishes. There’s a daily specials menu where you can chow down on brown champignons with smoked tofu in vegan cream sauce with peas or a spicy kimchi side.

The sister restaurant of Lehá hlava offers a quiet oasis near the Old Town Square. Its interior follows Feng shui principles, with plenty of space (the restaurant spans two floors) with a whole host of vegetarian delicacies within. They cook vegetarian meals in ways that even non-vegetarians enjoy.

Maitrea and its sister restaurant, Lehka Hlava, are another two classic vegetarian spots in Prague. They are exquisitely decorated, and Lehka Hlava even has a dark, “night sky” room. But these places are more than just vibes: they have amazing food, too.

For lunch we ate at Maitrea – (a vegan/vegetarian restaurant). They had so many unique dishes and the restaurant itself felt like a spa!. The food was SO good that we would even feel confident dragging our meat loving friends here 🙂

Maitrea which translates to loving-kindness is a vegetarian restaurant in Prague old town. I recommend you sit in the basement area. Must try: Tofu gras, Quesadilla, Spicy goulash and Udon noodles.

Maitrea: A sister concern of the Lehka Hlava, it’s closer to the Old Town Square and serves a mix of Mexican, Italian and even some Czech food.

The exquisite building is a feast in itself – but if you can’t get a reservation, try Maitrea, its sister establishment.
