Not your typical market, Manifesto hosts over 25 food vendors inside a complex of converted cargo containers. The container village is equipped for all seasons – in the summer, the plentiful outdoor seating is the perfect spot for a sun-drenched lunch, while covered domes keep diners cosy in winter. The gourmet street food stalls range from Mexican and trendy poke bowls to Pan-Asian fusion fare and a Czech microbrewery, with a number of local design brands also showcasing their work.

Manifesto Market is a “village” made up of shipping containers, the brainchild of landscape architect Martin Barry. With international street food and night markets with DJs, the New Yorker’s project is helping to rejuvenate Florenc, once a neglected hub, east of the centre. From late November, the Florenc venue becomes an alternative Christmas market, a contemporary twist on seasonal celebrations.

Opting for a street food market amid a European winter may sound foolhardy, but Manifesto Market Anděl knows how to wrap up warm. Come the frosty months, a temporary roof, windbreakers and efficient infrared heaters make this cashless market a sanctuary for enjoying steamy bowls of ramen or spicy nachos. The hot spiced sangria from the onsite bar will help you warm up from the inside out.

By all means, fill your boots with dumplings and pork knuckles at one of Prague’s many traditional restaurants, but for a snapshot of the city’s contemporary street food culture, head to the off-the-radar Andel district on the west bank of the Vltava and the Manifesto Market. A little like London’s POP Brixton, it’s a clever structure constructed from pastel-blue scaffolding, designed to be easily modified, and various reclaimed materials such as aluminium sheets, lighting and furniture from previous pop-up markets. Pick up a Proud craft ale from the bar and peruse the various menus – there are Ukrainian varenyky dumplings at Barva, empanadas at Dame Dos and Korean bibimbap at Babyryze, although our favourite is Taiko for its tonkotsu and ramen.

A not-so-traditional market, Manifesto takes place inside of converted cargo containers, giving off a unique, but trendy, vibe that consistently attracts thousands of people to this market. Featuring at least 25 vendors spread throughout the space, this former-wasteland is usable during all seasons, making it one of the most popular spots in the city. Come here in the winter and sit inside or visit in the summer and sit outside for lunch – the ability to visit here all-year-round is a sparse concept when it comes to farmer’s markets – and we love it.

Nowadays, it seems that every city or destination has an abundance of street food markets; a cool and stylish place, often overly quirky, dishing out an array of world cuisine from independent vendors. However, Manifesto is more than just a regular food market. Founded in 2018, Manifest’s aim is to transform forgotten urban spaces into dynamic social hubs, attracting creatives, tourists and locals to descend on a previously downtrodden neighbourhood and empty their wallets in return for a tasty meal.

NOTE: I haven’t been able to find details on this Christmas market for 2024, but the market spaces themselves do still exist and I’d expect them to have festive decorations even if they’re not advertising a full holiday market like in previous years. Info on my 2019 visit has been left here for your reference. As I mentioned before, I didn’t love the food selection at the main Christmas markets in Prague, which seemed to serve the same rotation of ham, sausage, and waffles at every single stall.

Manifesto Market Smichov, the baby sister of Manifesto’s location in Florenc is no less exciting than its predecessor. Because Manifesto’s first location became so popular, new grounds were opened in the summer of 2019 in Smichov – complete with a pool and deck chairs to lounge in. Indulge in treats like freshly prepared Poké Bowls or authentic Alebrijes from ‘Cocina Mexicana’ every Wednesday through Sunday from 11:00 AM until 10:00 PM and experience Prague food in a totally new way.

Manifesto Anděl is preparing a two-day celebration of the local carnival called Masopust. Visitors can enjoy a special program and menus from Friday, February 25th to Saturday, 26th. Quite well-known for the South American carnival vibes and lively dance waves that some of the restaurants bring on a regular basis to Manifesto, this time the happenings will highlight the Czech and Moravian traditions.

Manifesto Market is Prague’s first outdoor food hall, opened in 2018, and made up by shipping containers serving different kinds of food. They recently moved to a new spot in Anděl. The vibe and atmosphere remain the same as Florenc, with live music, fun events, and a mix of new restaurants alongside some long-time customer favourites.

Manifesto market has opened a second location in the Smíchov district. Thanks to the kiddie pool and several bars, this location feels more lounge-y and beachy than the original location, and thus destined to be a great summer hangout. The rest is similar to the original location: fast and comfort food, beers and drinks.

Ongoing|Manifesto Florenc and Anděl remain open daily until 10 pm. Guests can book a heated glamping tent or fireplace seating (Florence) or a table beneath a rooftop decorated with stars (Anděl). Takeaway and delivery are still available from local vendors while on Dec. 5 Mikuláš events are planned at both locations.

Nowadays most hip cities have at least one great open-air food hall, Manifesto Market is IT in Prague. Not only is this the first cashless cultural market in Europe, it’s also a creative approach to reboot an old public space. There are approximately 30 stands for you to explore and sift through.

Manifesto Market is probably one of the coolest food places in Prague if you ask us!. It’s built up by a bunch of containers where each one is a different food joint. So one container might serve Vietnamese food while another one may serve American-style burgers.

Luckily enough we stumbled across Manifesto Market in Prague, just along the street from the Motel One we stayed in. 27 containers house a mix of food and drink vendors, alongside retail pop ups - Gordon loved the Harley Davidson one!
