Reviews Summary

Hart Bageri is celebrated for its exceptional coffee and divine pastries, with many highlighting the cardamom croissant and smooth flat whites as standouts. While the quality of baked goods and coffee receives widespread praise, some diners have noted that service can sometimes be inattentive, especially during busy periods. Despite potential queues, the delicious offerings and warm atmosphere make it a highly recommended destination for pastry and coffee lovers.

"Stopped by this lovely little bakery and honestly, I’m already planning my next visit. The coffee was absolutely amazing—I had an oat flat white and it was smooth, perfectly balanced, and just the right temperature. Easily one of the best coffees I’ve had in a while.

I also treated myself to a slice of cheesecake, and wow… it was incredible. Creamy, rich, with just the right amount of sweetness. Every bite left me wanting more. If I didn’t have to leave, I’d probably still be sitting there with a second slice and another flat white!

The vibe in the bakery was warm and welcoming—definitely the kind of place you could spend a slow morning or afternoon. Highly recommend to any coffee and dessert lover."

TheDamek Damek

"It was totally worth the visit to this place. The cardamom croissant was really good. The location per se was alright because it used to be a meat packing district. But the food was something else. I've never had a tastier croissant. It was different and good."

Vivekananda Bheemisetty

"Beautiful bakery with the decent variety in sweets and in breads.

Had tried their speciality, bread, butter and cheese (we did not know that you can tell which bread you want as we were visiting for the first time) however whatever bread we got - it was delicious. Simple combination, nicely made.
Second we had asked to give the bread and butter combination only. That came with another variety of bread. And it was tasty too. Along with that ordered a tart with smoked leeks. That was also good.

In sweets, we tried strawberry tart and cinnamon twists.
Strawberry tart was light and with nice proportions. And cinnamon twist was airy and light.

As the day was nice and sunny (as usual windy) - could not find a place to sit outside but managed to find one sitting place inside.

Please do visit if nearby."

Owner Richard Hart, former head baker at Tartine in San Francisco, opened this tiny bakery back in 2018, with support from René Redzepi. It quickly attracted huge queues, with people travelling from across town to snap up the excellent breads and pastries. These days, Hart himself has relocated to Mexico but his bakeries are as loved as ever, with half a dozen other outposts now dotted around Copenhagen (the two newest, in Østerbro and Nørrebro, opened in January 2024) and seemingly insatiable demand for, among others, the sourdough loaves, cardamom croissants and cheesecakes.

12 Must-Try Restaurants in Copenhagen, From Michelin Stars To Danish Bakeries

Renowned for creating Copenhagen’s best sourdough bread – amid stiff competition – Hart was founded by British baker Richard Hart, ex Tartine, and now has four outlets: the original on Gammel Kongevej, a second with outdoor seating and a view of the Marble Church at Holmen, another in Refshaleøen, and a fourth in Kødbyen. What we’re saying is, wherever you are in the city, you can’t miss it. Look out for the outstanding pastries, and riffs on British classics like sausage rolls.

Trained in the science of baking, Richard Hart was the baker at noma before he opened his own bakery, Hart Bageri in Frederiksberg. While pushing the norm of what a Danish pastry is, Hart Bakery has also become famous for its mouth-watering sourdough bread, cakes and of course, its delicious Danish pastries and baked goods. After its opening, Hart quickly became synonymous with long lines on weekend mornings and has since opened in several locations, counting locations in a historical building previously used by the navy by Holmen’s waterfront, a bakery on the urban Refshaleøen and in the popular Meatpacking district in Vesterbro.
