What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
POPL Burger offers a highly acclaimed burger experience, often considered the best in Copenhagen, with creative flavors and top-notch ingredients. While the burgers and fries receive widespread praise, some visitors find the vegetarian options disappointing and note the high price point for Copenhagen standards. The casual ambiance and Noma connection add to its appeal, though the small seating area can lead to wait times.
"Lovely location, small sitting area inside the shop but there are more tables outside. The burger looks very regular but after one bite there will be a smile on your face and you will understand how good the burger is. Buns, cheese, Beef patty, pickle, red onion, and the sauce is just perfectly right!"

"Created by the same mind behind the world-renowned, three-Michelin-star restaurant Noma, this place quickly gained fame and became one of those bucket list spots I was eager to try. Expectations were understandably high — perhaps too high — and while the experience was good, it didn’t quite reach the level I had hoped for.
We tried both the cheeseburger and the vegan burger. Both were tasty, with the vegan option standing out thanks to a flavorful quinoa patty and well-seasoned vegetables. Still, with the Noma legacy behind it, I couldn’t help but expect something even more extraordinary.
There are actually two POPL locations — one is more of a takeaway joint with limited indoor seating (which is the one we visited), and the other is a full-service restaurant offering a wider menu. Our wait was about 20 minutes despite the small crowd.
That said, honorable mention goes to the fries — absolutely amazing! Crispy, golden, and perfectly seasoned.
All in all, the burgers were very good and the prices fair by Copenhagen standards. But considering the Noma connection, I was left wanting just a little bit more."

"The burgers were great, the best one we have tried in the Copenhagen. Almost as good as Picnic mingle & fun burgers. We loved the spice mix on the fries. We took Danish ox tomato and stuffed courgette as sides dishes. Courgette was very good but the tomato was plain and didnt have that intense taste of late summer tomato, it was more watery. Before we came everyone recommended us to not miss a POPL desserts. There where two options on the menu, one summer berries plate with some ice cream and the other one elderflower souffle with berries and vanilla cream. We took souffle. It was ok, but nothing special. Maybe we expected too much from the dessert as lot of people mentioned it. It is still a burger place, and the best one in town"

The 16 best Copenhagen restaurants
This burger bar offshoot of noma was born during lockdown in summer 2020, originally launching as a short-lived but hugely popular pop-up in the restaurant garden before being given its own permanent home in Christianshavn, just across the harbour from Nyhavn. Noma burgers may be a tad pricier than the burger norm but then they’re not your average fast food. The beef comes from organic farms on Denmark’s west coast and preparing the vegan option involves a two-day process in the noma fermentation lab, transforming steamed quinoa into umami-flavoured patties.
Best Restaurants in Copenhagen, Denmark
Nestled in the heart of Copenhagen’s incredibly hygge Christianshavn neighborhood, Popl Burger is famous for one thing: its burger. This cozy eatery, founded by the world-renowned, 3-Michelin-starred Noma chefs, focuses on high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. The star of the menu, the Popl Burger, made with grass-fed beef, smoked mayo, and pickled red onions, is a testament to their commitment to quality.
Restaurants in Copenhagen
When Noma opened a pop-up burger shack in its restaurant during the pandemic, people stood in line for hours, and guests and reviewers were quick to call it the world's best burger. Have a taste for yourself at this new, permanent burger restaurant, located on an iconic corner on a quay.

It’s a burger bar, yes, but born from the brilliance of the Noma team, who experimented with a shift into more accessible, concept place to eat. POPL is in the picturesque Christianshavn neighbourhood, and serves up melt-in-your-mouth burgers that elevate the norm. The organic beef is, naturally, from free-to-roam cows; the POPL team has formed relationships with the best biodynamic farmers, fermenters, brewers and winemakers and say that dedication to quality, innovation, cooking and environmental consideration is its backbone.

The fine dining chefs and fermentation experts of Noma started Popl during the pandemic, but the burger restaurant has set down permanent roots. The signature cheeseburger features beef from organic cattle farms in Denmark, cooked in butter and glazed with beef garum. The veggie burgers are also some of the city’s best, made with urban-farmed lion’s mane mushrooms or fermented quinoa with tempeh spores, glazed with yeast garum, fava bean shoyu, and smoked vegan butter.
Copenhagen is the green food lab of the world
The team behind the famous Danish restaurant noma spent months developing the recipes for their burger restaurant POPL in a fermentation lab. The restaurant opened in 2020, and the result of their vegetarian and vegan burger patties is cooked quinoa which goes through a two-day process to become patties. POPL comes from the Latin word ‘populus’ meaning community of people, but it also is a nod to respecting nature, as the name also refers to poplar wood.
12 Awesome Street Food Spots In Copenhagen
People who say that no good thing came out of COVID-19 are liars because in Copenhagen we got the NOMA burger. So basically all the restaurants had to shut down and could only be open for take-away – you know the drill – and NOMA quickly turned their restaurant into the most amazing burger joint in the city. People would head out to the restaurant, then wait in line for hours, just to sit in the beautiful garden and eat a burger.

– comes this downtown burger joint that undoubtedly serves the best patties in town. Veggies are well catered for with the fermented quinoa tempeh burger, while everyone else must order the outrageously delicious cheeseburger with beef garum, onion, burger sauce and nothing else. Their sides are limited in choice – like any decent burger bar – but incredibly satisfying, and include beef-fat fries, pickles and ice cream for pud.
Best Places To Eat In Copenhagen
Another fancy burger place, which I didn't get a chance to eat at, but our 'Politically Incorrect Tours', tour guide recommended as it was started by a former NOMA employee. For those who don't know, NOMA is basically the best restaurant in the world and a major reason Denmark has the highest per capita Michelin Star restaurants in the world - because anyone who works there then starts their own gig gets awards.

What started as a take-out, pop-up burger bar at Noma during the summer lockdown of 2020 has come to stay. Noma's Best Burger and Danish Culinary Delights
The burger-meal I was served in Popl - Noma’s down-to-earth sister diner - last weekend was the best beef-patty-in-a-bun I have ever eaten. Which is saying something because my burger-eating career began 48 years ago when I first discovered the luxury version of pressed-mince-beef delights in the Texas, which many would argue is the spiritual home of the beef burger.
