After our 2011 Revolution, Zamalek continued to be the starting point for people with fresh ideas and new concepts, a hub for great restaurants, specialty shops -such as; Sami Amin, Jozee Boutique, _**Nevine Altmann, ABn’G, Azza Fahmy, L’Oiseau du Nil, Mounaya Gallery-, cozy cafés, and small eateries to open their first store, from 2 tables & take away eateries, to fine-dining & night spots, to name a few; Zooba, L’Aubergine**_, **_Cairo Kitchen Zamalek, Nola Cupcakes, Ahwak Salon de Thé, _Cake Café, & Mr. Wok**, it actually turned into a big food court..

Fancier sit-down restaurants that serve Koshary include Zooba, Cairo Kitchen, and Abo El Sid (multiple locations for all); these restaurants may not be as authentic an experience as trying koshary from one of the other places we mention, but they still serve delicious koshary and often have some interesting variations (whole-wheat koshary, anyone?). Last but not least, if you get invited to an Egyptian A’azooma (dinner party/feast), and are asked what you would like to eat, try suggesting koshary—it’s an amazing dish to try when it’s homemade!

Cairo Kitchen is another of this city’s culinary gems, serving up a great menu of authentic local dishes, from a variety of tagens to stuffed vegetables and a delicious rotisserie chicken with molokheya. Their food is always fresh and of the highest quality, and the design of their spaces is always a gorgeous combination of funky modern and traditional Egyptian. They also have deliciously refreshing drinks like lemon-mint and hibiscus so make sure you give them a try!

In case you’re considering staying in Zamalek because it’s a such pretty place to stay in, you’ll probably need a couple of hotel recommendations. I personally prefer Sofitel El Gezirah and Mariott; they’re two of my favorite hotels in Cairo and both are located in Zamalek.

Cairo Kitchen is supposedly an authentic Egyptian restaurant serving homemade Egyptian meals. Their koshary was clean and fresh, but lacked in the overall kosharyness factor. Honestly, it didn't taste like koshary at all.
