Whilst obviously aimed at tourists, this medieval theme bar, built into one corner of the historic Town Hall, should be on everybody's list to visit when in Tallinn. Elaborately theatrical, "Kolmas Draakon" is a dark candlelit stone wall cellar where waitresses in medieval costume serve you tankards of ale and traditional Estonian schnapps with delicious elk soup, pies or jerky, whilst you fish for your own pickled gherkins from a huge barrel in the process. The bar belongs to the same people who run the famous medieval restaurant, Olde Hansa, just around the corner which is even more of a tourist trap.

The III Draakon is ideally located in one of the most ancient parts of Tallinn's historic Town Hall. The medieval tavern never cease to refresh guests with its famous hearty servings of elk broth, grilled game sausages, very delectable pastries as well as their cheapest but tastiest beer and wine on the square. For those travelling on a budget but wants to experience a good dining experience in Tallinn, the III Draakon is the perfect choice particularly when almost all food items only cost around €1 to €3 and the drinks will only cost you just around €2

Another theme spot called III Draakon, complete with its own serving wenches (I’m not using this term indiscriminately. It’s in all the restaurant descriptions), sits beneath the city hall. Its online menu reveals awfully cheap drinks, with the only food being elk stew and various pasties. I never saw the inside because every time I passed the entrance (many times), there was a line out into the square waiting to get in.

Speaking of indulging your inner tourist… Housed beneath Tallinn’s Town Hall, III Draakon looks like a hole-in-the-wall, but behind the heavy wooden door you’ll find a dark Medieval tavern, complete with terrifying Medieval landlady. She’ll sell you meat pies, elk soup, ox sausages and local cider – and you’ll pay not with euros but with “monies”. Just don’t forget to save one extra money for the landlady!

III Draakon – This medieval tavern situated right on the town square, inside the Town Hall building, is a great place to escape hot summer days. Offering a few simple meals such as elk soup, beef ribs, different pastries and a limitless amount of pickles. You have to fish for the pickles yourself from a big barrel which is already an experience on its own.

A more intimate medieval experience can be had on the Town Hall Square at III Draakon, named for the three dragons adorning the Town Hall's exterior wall. Reminiscent of a humble medieval tavern, this quaint locale offers rich elk soup and flaky pastries. And don't forget to grab a pickle from the big wooden barrel before you dig in!

The tavern that we visited is called III Draakon (Raekoja plats, 1) which means ‘The Third Dragon’ and was one of the top experiences we had in Tallinn. I highly recommend you call in and visit the “sharp tongued but warm hearted” tavern women for a good drink, a good feast and a good telling off.

If you want to have a proper meal and admire the Christmas Market from further away, the best choices are medieval restaurant Olde Hansa) just around the corner and the Medieval pub Draakon III. These places will go out of their way to make you feel as if you have stepped into the 15th century.

Neary every local will recommend III Draakon for the elk meat soup. This rich and hearty €2 dish is a fast favorite for just about anyone, regardless of budget. The restaurant is also located in the Town Hall Square and is easily the best deal you’ll find in the area.

Charles insisted that we go to this simple medieval themed restaurant right in Old Town Square. There is almost always a line to get in, but it moves pretty quickly. The menu at III Draakon is simple, they have soup, sausages, meat pies, vegetable pie, and beer.

At the III Draakon restaurant in Tallinn, the food is not the only star, but also the medieval atmosphere. It has the cheapest food and drink in town; however, don't expect an extensive menu, but basic Estonian dishes like sausages and venison.

This cute and quaint historical bar is a revival of Old Estonia. Take your pick from any of their Medieval brews or Estonian schnapps and take in the candlelit old-timey atmosphere. Don’t leave without trying the Elk broth, either.

Perhaps the most famous restaurant in Tallinn, it is also one of the cheapest restaurants in Tallinn. III Draakon is located right in the Town Hall square. While not every item menu is in the single digits, most of the dishes are.
