"This is a place of calm and of simple joy, you eat the freshest oysters imaginable approximately 150m from where they grew, with a fresh glass of white or rosé, a perfect view on the sea and the boats and you feet in the sand."

Schiller's Favorite Seafood Restaurants in Arcachon and Cap Ferret (Bassin d'Arcachon/ Bordeaux)

Then set your sights on La Cabane d’Hortense, with its lush green terrace that harbors stunning views of the Conche du Mimbeau!. Despite having cultivated oysters for four generations, the Lescarret family only decided to open up this shack in 2015 to celebrate their historic restaurant Chez Hortense’s 77th anniversary. It’s the perfect spot for a bite to eat, with either your feet planted firmly in the sand or huddled around the fireplace in the winter.
Where Parisians Escape to for Secret Beaches and Oyster Cabanas
Have oysters at La Cabane d’Hortense, the sister restaurant of Chez Hortense — it’s a classic — or at Les Parcs de l’Impératrice, which is managed by my friend Joël Dupuch: He embodies the sensitive humor of the oysterman. I also like the warm welcome and generous menus at Le Bouchon du Ferret for lunch and dinner at any time of the year — I always order the tuna pâté. If I’m entertaining at home in Cap Ferret, I love to cook an oyster omelet.

Other oyster cabins I recommend are La Cabane d’Hortense, which offers stunning views of the Dune du Pilat, or Chez boulan, a renowned 1958 oyster farmer and producer with exceptional service and food quality along a beautiful setting. Another great cabin is Le Ponton in l’Herbe, a must-visit spot for oyster lovers. Situated at the end of the picturesque Village of L’Herbe, the ponton offers a serene setting right on the Basin.

Not to be confused with the above, Khalid Zamrani’s “zen space” has become as renowned as its older namesake. The team farms the oysters and serves them – half a dozen for less than £9, paired with a glass of rosé for about £3 – with a view overlooking the Conche du Mimbeau bay. lacabanedhortense.com
