La Réserve de Nice

Chef Jêrome Cotta knows what it takes to earn restaurant acclaim, and his originality and attention to detail are reflected in creations like mille-feuille of foie gras caramelized with maple syrup; fig marmalade flavored with port wine, cranberry, and red-currant jelly; and cod fillet cooked in frothy butter, shallots, and cocoa beans stewed with bacon in a fine truffle bouillon. It's easy to run up a bill of €200 per couple with drinks here, but the panoramic views, especially upstairs, from the Art Deco building jutting over the sea cannot be faulted. It's also the site of one of the city's most stylish bars.

La Reserve is not Michelin starred but probably has the prettiest views. La Merenda is a very simple, historical no fuss, but authentic nicois restaurant taken over by a Michelin starred chef who wanted to tackle an entirely new challenge (beware though: ugly and small room, no terrace, no credit cards, and you can only reserve by actually walking there). Not in Nice itself, but Le Louis XV (Alain Ducasse's original restaurant) in Monaco and Le Mirazur (Mauro Colagreco) in Menton are two of the most famous restaurants in the world within 30 minutes drive/train from Nice.

This was by far my favorite beach discovery while in Nice for a few reasons: it’s within walking distance, there’s a ladder so that you don’t have to slip over the pebbles while getting in the water and it’s super local. Right past the port, it also features an awesome (although technically off-limits) diving board–shown in the first photo in this post. Watching the reckless teenage boys shimmy up to the top and then jump off is afternoon entertainment in itself.

La Reserve is one of the best beaches in Nice, at least when you’re comparing public beaches. It can be found close to the city center, and you’ll find plenty of teenagers and locals. This beach isn’t located on the main large beach of Nice, and this means that there will be substantially fewer tourists here, and the majority of people will be locals, thus allowing for smaller crowds compared to the beaches of the main Nice beach.

Nestled by the sea with a view looking out over the Baie des Anges, this is a great, sheltered spot to soak up the evening air with a view of the sea wall and gently lapping waters. However, the food is really the reason to come here. The head chef Sebastien Mahuet is a genius, and the fish and lamb are particularly exceptional – expect something truly unique whenever you come.

A short taxi ride East will get you to the hotel de la Chevre D’or and the incredible Les Remperts restaurant. Perched on the edge of the cliff looking out across the bay – great food and stunning views. Head East from Nice and you can reach La Colombe D’or in Saint Paul de Vence – famous for it’s rustic food and priceless art collection!

If public beaches are more your thing, then you should definitely visit La Reserve, one of our favourite public beaches in Nice. However, don’t think that because it is a public beach that there will be hordes of tourists lounging on this beach. La Reserve takes the crown among other public beaches in Nice because of how secluded it is.
