Two great cocktail spots, Bar Luciole and Bar Louise, are places to find riffs on standbys that still honor the region’s namesake spirit, as well as inventive modern cocktails. And both Luciole and Louise are prime spots to taste Cognacs from smaller producers you might not be able to visit. All this new energy complements stalwarts like the Michelin-starred La Ribaudière in nearby Bourg-Charente, where chef Thierry Verrat has been serving classical French cuisine for more than 30 years.

Considered Cognac’s first craft cocktail bar, the laid-back Bar Louise is conveniently located in the center of town, sharing a 19th-century-era residence with Hôtel François Premier. Take a seat at the bar and order one of the cognac-focused cocktails that blends unexpected yet refreshing flavors such as lemon zest, sea pickles and shrub cider vinegar, or sip your way around the region sampling a selection of cognacs served neat in taster’s glasses.

Cocktail Workshop at Bar Louise : an unmissable place for enthusiasts with Germain Canto, awarded the Cognac Educator label in 2015. On the programme: "My Cognac Personality", a new experience based on the exploration of your tasting profile among 350 cognacs, to discover the different aromatic notes of your personality and to be able to visit the producer that best matches your profile.

Bar Louise is the first cocktail bar that opened in Cognac in 2012, right in the center of town. Germain Canto and Flavien Faure, the lead bartenders, are passionate about cognac education. The cognac-based cocktails are imaginative and often highlight many local ingredients, including local flowers and herbs, and spirits.

All year round, come and relax and have a good time in Cognac’s first cocktail bar, which opened in 2012, at the Hôtel François Premier. You will appreciate the chic and relaxed atmosphere, but also the contemporary interior. The menu is renewed regularly and it is always creative and diverse.

The streets are quiet after leaving Bar Luciole for a dinner reservation at Chez Poulpette. The restaurant is a different story. It has the same energy as the bar, fueled by a short menu that changes based on what chefs Antoine Vernouillet and Amandine Bernanose find fresh at the market.
