Reviews Summary

Diners consistently praise Lard et Bouchon for its unique ambiance in a historic wine cellar and its exceptional French cuisine, particularly highlighting the owner's warm hospitality and excellent wine recommendations. While most reviews are glowing, a few suggest that some wine selections might be a bit pricey for their perceived value.

"We had a fantastic meal made all the more special by the excellent owner! We haven't booked but managed to find a lovely little corner. The black pudding is the best I have ever tasted and I should know as I am Scottish, totally yummy, rich and unctuous. We also ate snails which were delicious and a cheese board to finish. Wine throughout, enjoyed lots of different glasses of red wine which our host brought over every time we asked for more🍷😁 💜. A great experience. Highly recommend. I'm still talking about my black pudding. Happy days."

Laura J Aitcheson

"We had dinner at Lard et Bouchon and found it to be a decent experience overall. The food was okay — nothing particularly memorable, but nicely presented and satisfying enough. The wine list is extensive, though we felt the wines were quite pricey for what they were.

On the positive side, the service was good throughout the evening. The staff were attentive and pleasant, which made the meal more enjoyable.

All in all, it’s a decent spot if you’re in the area, though the value for money could be improved, especially when it comes to the wine."

Rachel Tong

"Located in an old underground cellar in the village centre, it’s popular with the locals. Food selections were good and served efficiently as was the wine. Limited but good selections. There is no music so the ambiance is a tad too quiet but overall it was a well priced and lovely evening dinner. St Emilion can be hit or miss and touristy but this place was a great find and recommended."

How To Visit A Wine Bar In Saint Émilion

Established in 2011 by Sylvain Sasso, Lard & Bouchon is a successful relative newcomer to the city’s wine scene. Enter, then descend stairs to a fourteenth century cellar from where, centuries ago, limestone blocks were hacked from the hillside, then floated down the Dordogne River to build Bordeaux city. The atmosphere is comfortable and casual, although staff maintain scrupulous regard toward the quality of wine and food served.
