Reviews Summary
Barbarestan offers a unique culinary journey through revived 19th-century Georgian recipes, praised for its exceptional flavors and warm, attentive service. While the elegant, vintage ambiance creates a soulful dining experience, some find the prices to be on the higher side, and a few mention a perceived shift in clientele over time. Despite these points, it's widely considered a must-visit for special occasions and a memorable gastronomic adventure.
"Fine dining, Georgian style! I needed a special venue for a birthday dinner celebration. I was curious whether Barbarestan would live up to its rating and reputation - it did! Attentive service, appealing decor, wonderful food. I don’t normally ‘wow!’ at salad but the sophisticated cucumber & tomato starter was indeed a wow. Sea bass main was divine (I’m told - my partner loved it so much she didn’t let me try it!). Chicken in tomato sauce with cheese crust was very tasty. Sensational white wine to accompany. But perhaps the best was an apple desert with a sour cherry coulis that had us virtually licking the plate. Knockout! Overall: expensive but very much worth it."

"Celebrated our anniversary here during our trip.
The menu is unique I think because we don’t see it from regular Georgian restaurant.
Service is great! They are attentive to us. We were the first guests that day.
Is it worth to go back to? Probably not but it is very nice place to celebrate there on special occasions."

"Best service in all of Georgia! The waiters were so lovely and excited to share about their traditional Georgian recipes. I’m a vegetarian and they had several options for me.
The food was wonderful. It was very special, flavourful, and rich. I quietly enjoyed it as a treat. It was heavier than what I am used to so I couldn’t eat it every day, but it was a great one off culinary experience.
We didn’t realise that it was a fancier spot and just went there in our first day in town, after searching for ‘Georgian Vegetarian’. It catered to both my veggie tastes and my husband’s meat eating pallet.
We liked this place a lot!"

A traditional family restaurant based on the recipes in legendary chef Barbare Jorjadze’s original cookbook of 19th-century Georgian classics:) With its timeless decoration, it is a great place to discover forgotten but delicious Georgian dishes. Soft yellow light radiating from under the lampshades, lace tablecloths and vintage pottery, stylish and polite waiters… Whichever of the dishes you choose, all made from local ingredients, you will have a unique experience. While I was enjoying the spicy, crispy bread, lightly salted lemon butter, and qvevri (traditional Georgian wine) that came before the meal, I couldn’t help but look around 🙂
