Earlier on Saturday, at around 1am, interior ministry special police units carrying automatic weapons had raided Bassiani and Cafe Gallery, two clubs at the centre of the explosion of techno culture in Tbilisi in recent years. Eight alleged dealers were arrested in a showpiece anti-narcotics operation, after the deaths in recent weeks of at least five young people who are believed to have taken drugs while out clubbing.

Just up the hill we were drawn to a place emanating a mix of techno and house music; and that was where we discovered Cafe Gallery. The club had unsuspecting house-like, yellow, slightly crumbling facade, but as soon as you enter, it felt like we were transported to a Berlin club. Each floor blasted a mix of techno, trance, and house in what felt like large bedrooms and living rooms complete with beds.

Unlike clubs everyone is used to, Cafe Gallery is a cozy place that has a bit different mission. As the name suggests, it is partly a cafe and partly an art gallery which on certain days turns into a nightclub. The main hall on the second floor of the building is large and spacious and has a constantly changing exhibition of paintings, showing mainly Georgian artists where all works are for sale.

Cafe Gallery is a beloved spot in Tbilisi's nightlife scene, known for its intimate setting and eclectic music selection. By day, it operates as an art cafe, but by night, it transforms into a lively venue featuring live performances. The place is mostly famous for its friendly and diverse atmosphere.

By night, Café Gallery transforms into a vibrant spot for Tbilisi’s creative crowd. It’s smaller than some of the other clubs on this list, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in heart. The intimate atmosphere makes it the perfect place to mingle with locals and experience the city’s inclusive spirit.
