Across a design-centric courtyard from Rooms is its award-winning sister hotel Stamba which shares its sibling’s philosophy but not its style. Converted from a landmark brutalist Soviet-era printing press, this architectural and design marvel wraps concrete in light, space and creature comforts. The triple height lobby is jaw-dropping, exposing massive concrete and metal beams along which reams of paper were once transported from the press; the austerity is softened with light wooden floorboards, soft leather couches, and a sea of books filling the length and height of the soothingly-coloured dark-blue walls.

This place also features on my best coffee roundup so it’s a surefire win if you want a brekkie too. The decor, which is part of the appeal—think huge ornate chandeliers, an open kitchen, and a Wes-Anderson-esque color palette—blends in seamlessly with the rest of the hotel’s aesthetic and if you can afford the pretty hefty price tag, it’s well worth staying in Stamba Hotel, it’s one of my favorites. The breakfast menu is made up of cold dishes like grapefruit and barley, bircher muesli, and matcha yogurt, while the hot offerings include ricotta pancakes, omelets, and French toast.

Located on the bottom floor of the Stamba boutique hotel building, inside the concrete-and-steel shell of a retired printing house, Stamba Cafe is part of a mini dining precinct that also includes the Pink Bar and Shio Ramen. The menu highlights both seasonal produce and high-quality local ingredients from Adjara Group’s Udabno regenerative farm and SpaceFarms vertical farm – meaning you can find some very unique dishes on the menu. I recommend the Udabno Plate, a mini smorgasbord for one featuring Georgian cheeses, soft-boiled eggs, honey, almond cream cheese, and other morsels.

Look no further than Café Stamba for leisurely breakfasts with energising shots and perfectly scrambled eggs garnished with leaves and cress from the hotel’s vertical garden, Space Farms. Café Stamba is also the place to be after the sun has set with a new-fangled twist on traditional Georgian dishes that rely heavily on foraged and regional ingredients. The photogenic Stamba Mule, starring lavender, blueberry, ginger and lime deserves a special shout out.

Finding a roastery that has amazing coffee and food can be a rarity, but Cafe Stamba excels at each along with producing their own chocolate and baked goods. Based out of the Stamba Hotel in Vera, the cafe operates as an all-day restaurant with both Georgian and international staples as well as an Asian Corner with sushi and ramen. Each of the menus rely on locally sourced produce in collaboration with the Georgia Farm Association, and changes seasonally.

It’s hard to make a list for Tbilisi without mentioning Stamba, where I often stay when visiting. The interiors are a dream of 1920s old-world glamour, with a sprawling garden bar nestled into a magnificent Brutalist building (it once housed the printing press for Soviet propaganda in occupied Georgia). It is full of hidden surprises – look for the chocolatery, roastery, or micro herb garden when strolling through the stunning grounds.

Like Fabrika, Stamba is a lot of different things—and in many ways, it’s a classier version of its sister venue. It’s a cafe, a handful of restaurants, a retro library, a hotel, a decent place to have a few drinks, and one of the most popular places in the city.

The bar located within Stamba, one of Tbilisi’s most sophisticated hotels, is also quite popular, and its popularity is well-deserved. It is part of the same group as Fabrika and has been converted from an old printing house. With its high ceiling and a huge chandelier hanging from it, and the red retro bar chairs, it has a luxurious and attractive atmosphere.

For two years now, the first vertical farm in Georgia, Space Farms, has been attracting Instagram bloggers to Café Stamba in the very heart of Tbilisi. A wide range of herbs, lettuces and edible flowers, grown in a hydroponic vertical farm, are delivered ultra-fresh to the café. Thus, the distance from the farm to the table is no more than 10 meters.

I love this place – not just for its massive Ace Hotel vibes, and its trendy, industrial, urban, hip, you name it decor – but because the Stamba is a Tbilisi institution. Even if you’re not staying here, you should definitely come for brunch or cocktails. As well as the main restaurant, there’s a more relaxed coffee shop and bar area to relax in.

Unlike other great restaurants in Georgia, this one isn't hidden. It's along Rustaveli Avenue and from the outside you will find its appealing interior. They retained some features as this building was formerly a publishing house.

Everybody knows Cafe Stamba, another favorite place for many locals and foreigners. It might not be as cozy as you’d expect, depending on the time of day you come here. It especially gets busy during breakfast and lunchtime.

Whenever I travel to a new place, I look for hotels with cafes. I’m not sure why more people don’t use hotels over coffee shops. Hotels offer better service and often similar prices or cheaper than the local coffee places.
