Reviews Summary

ORA Restaurant & Wine Bar is lauded for its unique apothecary ambiance and expertly crafted cocktails. While many praise the creative, seasonal set menus and attentive service, some diners found the food quality inconsistent for the price point and noted lengthy waits between courses. Overall, it's recommended for its distinctive atmosphere and impressive drink program, with food being a delightful bonus for many.

"Amazing service, food and vibe.
Cocktails were perfect.
Menu very interesting.
Elishka our server was wonderful.
Would 10/10 recommend.
We went early (5:30) to catch a quiet time without a reservation."

Diana Elaine Miller

"We went here as the final dinner of an extended weekend in Berlin and I could not have wished for a better experience.
We were imediately greeted by the extremely friendly staff and were seated at our table, there is an incredible atmosphere and the theme of the old apothacary realy sets the mood for the evening.
The food was simply amazing, the bbq pork in particular. The House cocktails are also very well made and taste great.

10/10 would recommend and visit again"

Peter Reinholt

"Food is created as a perfect set of well balanced menu - just go for the full option and you won’t regret it! Wonderful German Chardonnay. Lovely service. But the just after the food (which is obviously super good and the most important) just make sure you pay attention to the interior… with booking a spot inside, to feel the vibe :) great place!"

The 11 Coolest Bars In Berlin Germany

This bar is situated inside an old pharmacy on Oranienplatz in Kreuzberg, which dates back to 1861, but was left abandoned after the war until the new building owners, Lukas Schmid and Christoph Mack, opened ORA in May 2015. They revamped the space but kept many of the original features, such as the old wooden medicine cabinets, apothecary jars and tiled floors. Even the facade was kept the same: when the new owners turned on the original neon ‘ORANIEN-APOTHEKE’ sign outside, only three letters lit up – O, R and A – making the name for the new establishment a no-brainer.

14 Best Bars in Berlin For Cocktails And More, Picked By Locals

One of Berlin’s best date night bars and definitely one of its historically fascinating ones, the beautiful Ora bar flirts with its past status as a pharmacy, and accentuates vintage fittings with modern-day glamour. Built as an Apotheke in the 1860s, rows of old medicine bottles, brass-gold-coloured countertops, and the square-panelled wood are still evident among the bustle of wait staff in this converted bar, who bring out seasonal small serving plates and champagne to the candlelit tables. Is it Berlin’s cheapest bar?

The Best Places to Eat in Berlin — Restaurants and More

I come to Kreuzberg's Ora for the food as much as the setting — a beautifully preserved 1860 pharmacy counter lined with original wood-and-glass apothecary shelves and antique medicine bottles. The daily three- to four-course menu uses seasonal, sustainable ingredients in inventive dishes like a veal tonnato with regionally sourced meat, and monkfish with sea urchin, lilac sprouts, and monk's beard (a kind of sea vegetable). The restaurant's ambitious wine list is full of surprises, like a minerally white from the Spanish island of Tenerife and an orange wine from the Mosel — these and other wines are available by the glass, with tons more by the bottle.

Taken over by the Michelberger Hotel crew in mid-2020, the former apothecary on Oranienplatz oozes atmosphere. Its long wooden bar, festooned with old medicine bottles, now doles out medication of another kind: natural wines from across Europe and South Africa, with some truly exciting discoveries to be had for €30-€40 a bottle. You can get a pretty great three-course meal from chef Sam Kindillon, but we won’t blame you for sticking to the bar snacks, like a lovely plate of thin-sliced melon and prosciutto with chilli salt, Fish Klub oysters or toast topped with Roddie Sloan razor clams.

Top 12 Bars In Berlin - A Unique Guide to Germany's Capital City

ORA: Following World War 2, this former pharmacy from the 1860s (whose original name, Orange, gives the bar its title) remained abandoned until 2015, which is when its entrepreneurial new owners reopened it. Because of the age of the decor, however, it was decided to keep many of the original features, which is why, as you sip your beer or cocktail, you are surrounded by oddities such as apothecary jars, cracked tiled flooring, and wooden medicine cabinets.

Perhaps the most beautiful of all the city’s repurposed spaces (and in Berlin that’s saying a lot), ORA is an opulently restored 18th-century pharmacy that’s now an all-day café. Start the morning with a tall, foamy milchkaffee or a Bircher müsli that would make an Austrian (or Australian) jealous; end the day with braised beef cheeks and old-school Swabian dumplings and a cocktail. No matter what the hour, this pharmacy will set you straight.
