Reviews Summary

Restaurant Tim Raue offers an exceptional fine dining experience with bold, Asian-inspired flavors and impeccable service. Guests rave about the creativity and precision in every dish, the attentive staff who expertly handle dietary needs, and the elegant yet relaxed atmosphere. While the price point reflects the high-end experience, most agree it's worth every euro for a truly memorable culinary journey.

"I had such a good time! I got invited there as a thank you - never been to such a high end restaurant. I have some restrictions food wise (can't have Milk protein) and I never felt better taken care of and like the staff is really looking out for me. They even called in advance to talk to me about the options and what is possible. Everyone was super attentive and friendly and the atmosphere is warm and relaxed.
I loved the food!! Everything was incredibly tasty and there were combinations that just broadened my food horizon. I have no actual comparison on this level, but my company did and they thought the food was outstanding as well. So all over, if you want to do something special, you won't do wrong here ♡"

"Very interesting and unique food selection and flavors, loved it. Service was great, straight forward and great team all together. Wine selection is good, with some very special items. Hat off to the Sommelier that understands his job and makes the right decisions for clients."

"Impeccable hospitality, creative Asian inspired menu, amazing wine cellar!!

I had the pleasure of dining at Restaurant Tim Raue, in May 2025. They were extremely accommodating of a reservation made on short notice. They were also very accommodating of my 7 year old son, who’s list of Michelin restaurant experiences is impressive and by no means his first experience. As I stated above the hospitality was world class. The food was exciting, incredibly tasty but approachable, and the wine cellar is incredible. I will definitely go back."

Asian and German cuisine may not seem like an obvious pairing, yet chef Tim Raue has achieved two Michelin stars for his innovative fusion of flavours from Europe and East Asia. The menu at his namesake restaurant brings together Japanese produce, Thai spices and Chinese cooking philosophy with European touches, resulting in dishes such as mazara prawn with chioggia beetroot and strawberries with rhubarb and Japanese Calpico soda. Just steps away from the famous Checkpoint Charlie, the restaurant offers a combination of a la carte menu options as well as two six-course menus.

19 Best Restaurants in Berlin, From Kebab Shops to Tasting Menus

On a busy, not-very-attractive Kreuzberg street near Checkpoint Charlie (past shops selling cheesy Cold War tchotchkes), you’ll turn into what looks like a parking lot. But once you step through the totally nondescript entrance and into the attractive modern dining room with flashes of color (navy fabric booths, pretty blue chairs), you'll start to feel something special. Indeed, there’s a definite buzz to Restaurant Tim Raue, and expectations are high for Berlin's most famous boy-from-the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks-turned-chef.

Celebrity chef Tim Raue isn’t out to offend anyone, but he’s also unapologetic about what he’s doing at his namesake restaurant. What he’s doing is “cooking Asian food” (he pointedly doesn’t specify one type), but with far more emphasis on artistry than authenticity. That means a platter of starters that includes octopus with charcoal aioli and yuzu, and green curry with marshmallow, coconut and Peruvian mint, followed by an elaborate tasting menu (the place has two Michelin stars) with dishes like pikeperch that’s been marinated for 12 hours in sangohachi, and his signature wasabi langoustine that’s cooked as tempura, doused with spicy mayo and served with deep fried green rice.

And in the end, perhaps this is merely a necessary correction to a fine dining bubble that was never destined to endure in a city like Berlin—one notably lacking in an abundance of “old money” and the cushion of corporate expense accounts.
