Reviews Summary
Sophienkeller offers a unique medieval dining experience with authentic Saxon cuisine, praised for its immersive atmosphere and friendly service. While many enjoy the traditional dishes and themed entertainment, some reviews mention inconsistent food quality and occasional service issues.
"I had the suckling pig for dinner and eierschecke for dessert. I would recommend getting a reservation since it was busy when I went, but the food was great, I really like the decor and theme, and the staff was friendly. Definitely a highlight of my trip to Dresden."

"I love the decor of this restaurant! Takes you into a completely different era with its wooden ceilings, chairs and artifacts. Lots of seating space with plenty of tables and booths to entertain large groups. Toddlers and kids get their own crowns! How fun.
They have about 5 different vegetarian dishes. The menu is bi-lingual. And the staff is too! I ordered my usual Helles beer with the chicken pastry that came with salad and cream sauce. Service is courteous and service speed is moderate. The chicken pastry was well-cooked, coated with spinach and cheese. It was delicious and filling. Definitely a must visit before watching an opera at the Oper Haus, Dresden!"

"A truly wonderful experience in Dresden was our meal in this historical place - yet not touristic at all! We actually enjoyed a very pleasant celebration here and wonderful dishes, with remarkably friendly staff and an elegant service. What a superb meal!"

Must-Try Restaurants In Dresden, Germany
With waitresses dressed up in period garb, Sophienkeller is the perfect place to taste a typical Saxon meal from the XVIII century. Expect specialities such as the boneless half duck with red cabbage or the spit-roasted suckling pig, to be accompanied with a dark Bohemian Krušovice beer. The ambience is amazing, with vaulted ceilings in the Taschenbergpalais, an elegant and historical building in the old city centre of Dresden.
DRESDEN german restaurants& playhouse venues
I prefer the Paulaner's over the Sophienkeller (did you eat there?) because of the ambience - when I have been to the latter last time it was noisy, with tour groups and a sort of "animation" (an actor as "August der Starke" - awful). But the food was not bad ... I just like the Bavarian beer too
