Reviews Summary

Dauth-Schneider offers an authentic German dining experience with generous portions and traditional flavors, especially praised for its Apfelwein and local specialties like the green sauce. While many enjoy the lively atmosphere and friendly service, some diners have reported issues with reservations and inconsistent food quality, with one reviewer noting a specific complaint about the green sauce preparation.

"When in Frankfurt, go to Alt-Sachsenhausen which is the only surviving part of historical Frankfurt. There, you will find traditional restaurants that serve amazing local food and cider. Dishes with the Frankfurt green sauce are a must-try here. They serve tasty desserts too."

"We were looking for an authentic German restaurant in Frankfurt, and we certainly found it here. Our waitress (blonde, I wish I knew her name!) was so accommodating in making recommendations and helping to translate. She recommended the green sauce for our Schnitzel, and it was fantastic. Paired with the Apfelwein, I am still dreaming of this meal. Incredibly affordable, huge portions, made fresh with great outdoor ambiance. 10/10 would recommend!"

Anthony Mascia

"I don’t read German so, it’s a little tricky when you get there because there are a couple of other restaurants sharing the same outdoor seating space. Remember to look for Dauth -Schneider.
It’s the yellow sign board . Middle restaurant. Nice German ladies serving there. The food is very authentic German. I can say the best of all the ones I tried. The portion is rather big. Great for sharing to try everything."

Frankfurt: nightlife and clubs

Located in the Sachsenhausen , the Dauth-Schneider is a traditional tavern that has been open for over 150 years where you can taste the typical local apple cider. The place is frequented both by the inhabitants of the city and by many tourists, but it is still quiet. Under a cobbled street, in the cellar of this tavern, the apple wine ( Apfelwein ) is still pressed each fall and the fruity preparation is served in traditional style with plates of sausages, fried potatoes and sauerkraut.

Eat like a god in Frankfurt – the best cider taverns

Just a few steps further on in the traditional hostelries of old Sachsenhausen (e.g. Dauth-Schneider, Fichtekränzi and Atschel) cider is served by the “bembel” – an earthenware cider jug. And if you want a cider shandy, you’ll have to settle for mineral water in your traditional lozenge-cut “Geripptes” glass. Mixing with lemonade is a complete no-no in this cider Bermuda triangle.
