Reviews Summary

Café Wanderer & Bieramt is praised for its fantastic atmosphere, particularly during winter, and its prime location for people-watching. Visitors love the extensive beer selection and the cozy, lively ambiance, especially when enjoying outdoor seating. However, some reviews mention occasional rough handling of guests by staff, suggesting a need for improved customer service.

"Wonderful winter setting with beautiful lights and lots of beer & glühwein! Sit outside with a blanket and watch all the square’s activity. Or go inside for some lively local merriment! I just loved the friendly guys serving up our drinks!"

Kat Fred

"Great cozy cafe in the centre of Nuremberg, the staff was very friendly and the coffee was good. The prices were also very good. Only improvement in my opinion can be the toilet, it was fine but definitely could be better maintained, also, try to have cash on you, but that goes for most of Germany. I will be back if in the area!"

Dimitris Karyamis

"Cafe Bar Wanderer is located at Beim Tiergärtnertor just below the Nuremberg Castle in the north section of the Old Town. They have a restaurant as well as a detached and separate bar where we were able to enjoy Gluhwein during the recent annual Christmas Market.

There are standing tables outstand the bar where you can have your mulled wine, prices and glass deposits are similar to what you will find throughout Nuremburg. We really enjoyed having gluhwein at this particular location, it is quite atmospheric on cold winter days."

Nuremberg Travel Guide: Things to Do, See, & Eat

This cafe is right at the bottom of the castle and it’s lovely for morning coffee, or is a great cozy bar for later in the day. There’s a good selection of Franconia beers, and while there’s limited food options, there’s still plenty and what you would expect for a cafe menu, and there’s something for everyone. It’s a wonderful people watching spot too if the weather is warm and you can sit outside.

Afterwards we need a refreshment, which leads us to the Café Bar Wanderer where you sit down on the cobblestones, which are still warm from the sun, and order a typical local beer. By sitting there, you will always hear about the latest Nuremberg gossip, interesting stories about the city itself and about everybody’s late night plans.

City bars with a difference

The Wanderer has two separate establishments next door to each other. The Wanderer Café Bar and the Bieramt are located in a converted workshop right next to the city wall and near Albrecht Dürer’s House. What makes both locations special is that from May onwards you can enjoy your drinks outside in the middle of the old town.

Formerly a watering hole for horses, this tiny café-bar, half-built into the town's wall, makes for a great place to try a variety of Franconian beers. Don't know which brew to start with?. Wanderer has its own “beer office” and helpful staff to help you decide.

Day or night the Tiergartnertor Platz is a great place to come and hang out with the locals. During the summer, action really hots up here in the evenings with locals coming armed bottles of wine or beer and spreading themselves on the warm cobbled stones.
