This cafe is right at the bottom of the castle and it’s lovely for morning coffee, or is a great cozy bar for later in the day. There’s a good selection of Franconia beers, and while there’s limited food options, there’s still plenty and what you would expect for a cafe menu, and there’s something for everyone. It’s a wonderful people watching spot too if the weather is warm and you can sit outside.

Afterwards we need a refreshment, which leads us to the Café Bar Wanderer where you sit down on the cobblestones, which are still warm from the sun, and order a typical local beer. By sitting there, you will always hear about the latest Nuremberg gossip, interesting stories about the city itself and about everybody’s late night plans.

The Wanderer has two separate establishments next door to each other. The Wanderer Café Bar and the Bieramt are located in a converted workshop right next to the city wall and near Albrecht Dürer’s House. What makes both locations special is that from May onwards you can enjoy your drinks outside in the middle of the old town.

Formerly a watering hole for horses, this tiny café-bar, half-built into the town's wall, makes for a great place to try a variety of Franconian beers. Don't know which brew to start with?. Wanderer has its own “beer office” and helpful staff to help you decide.

Day or night the Tiergartnertor Platz is a great place to come and hang out with the locals. During the summer, action really hots up here in the evenings with locals coming armed bottles of wine or beer and spreading themselves on the warm cobbled stones.

Second to the Nuremberg Christmas Market, Cafe Bar Wanderer was my favorite place to imbibe in mulled wine. It’s location next to the Christmas tree in Am Tiergärtnertor makes for an extra festive experience under the castle walls.

We enjoyed breakfast at Cafe Bar Wanderer and relaxed outside beneath the Imperial Castle complex. Its location has many beautiful details and a perfect view of Albrecht Durer's home.
