Reviews Summary

Karamanlidika offers a captivating culinary experience with authentic Greek flavors, particularly excelling in its selection of cured meats and traditional dishes. Diners praise the high-quality ingredients, friendly service, and unique atmosphere that blends a deli with a restaurant. While the food is consistently lauded, some visitors have noted initial service hiccups, though these are often resolved by attentive staff.

"The food here is fantastic!
We mistakenly came upon karamanlidika thinking that they had spanakopita (they do not lol). But in the process we tried authentic Greek sausages which was completely worth it. There was a brief wait of about 15 min to seat a party of 3. The inside includes a small packaged products market and then there’s an alley under an awning with the seating for the restaurant. The restaurant provided free prosciutto and cheese which was not too salty and tasted fresh. We ordered several vegetarian apps including dolmades (excellent), Aubergine dip (smoky flavoring and very tasty, need to order bread separately), and sahanaki. For meat apps we ordered kefte (tasted like meat falafel), and the ultimate favorite of the meal - the rocket sausage. The rocket sausage is extremely spicy so order at your own risk. For mains we ordered the meat balls (just ok, although the meat was still flavorful), and karamanlidiko Parmak sausage which was another favorite. For dessert they gave free carrot marmalade yogurt which was like a parfait but also very tasty. The only complaint was that we asked to place an order ahead for kanafeh because it takes 15 min to make but they wouldn’t allow it ahead of time. Ultimately a pleasant experience and find"

"It was pretty busy when we arrived, and we had to wait in line for a bit. A staff member eventually welcomed us and invited us in, but then disappeared into the crowd. Since no one else guided us, we assumed we could pick our own table and sat down.

Just a few seconds later, another staff member approached us with a pretty rude tone, asking if the manager had told us to sit. We tried to explain, but he didn’t listen and told us to leave, which felt quite disrespectful. While we were still trying to clarify, the woman who originally welcomed us came back and asked us to follow her. She then seated us in the semi-outdoor area, and thankfully, things improved from there.

The rest of the staff were really friendly and helpful. From taking our order to serving the food, they were polite and attentive. One even asked how we liked the food, which we really appreciated.

The food itself was delicious, we’d give it a solid 9 out of 10. And as a nice surprise, they even gave us a complimentary dessert at the end!

Overall, a rocky start, but it ended on a good note✨"

"We ordered three starters and meatballs for the mains. The recommendation was great. The food and drinks were unique and delicious. The dessert was yum. Quaint spot. Must try!"

This stone-built Monastiraki deli feels cutting-edge with its ham hocks, dried chillies and loops of cured sausage. But its menu harks back to the Karamanlides, a community of Anatolian immigrants who brought cured and air-dried meats to Northern Greece. Sit within view of the market-style meat counter while you tuck into kofte sausages with yoghurt and pitas, or meatballs smudged with smoked aubergine cream.

Ta Karamanlidika tou Fani: This gem, with its original location housed in a restored neoclassical building, is the kind of place that you always hope to find when travelling abroad. Before becoming a restaurant, it was one of the first charcuteries opened in Athens, famous for its cold cuts. Karamanlidika was founded by Greeks who moved from Asia Minor to Greece due to the population exchange in the first quarter of the 20th century, bringing with them a vast culinary heritage.

A fairly new addition to the food scene in Athens, Ta Karamanlidika tou Fani a is a charcuterie and ‘mezetzidiko’ that has won the hearts of locals and visitors. Best Bites in Athens

Slow roasted lamb comes to mind anytime I think of traditional Greek meats but eating at Karamanlidika gave me a surprisingly new appreciation for the cured meats and charcuterie plates in this region. Karamanlidika was a well known deli shop and mezze eatery specializing in preserved meats. The restaurant pays homage to the Karamanlides, a native group from central Anatolia who were namely responsible for cultivating traditions around curing and drying meat in the region.

The 6 Best Restaurants in Athens, Greece

If it’s your first visit to Greece, I think Karamanlidika near the Central Market is one of the best restaurants in Athens to get acquainted with classic Greek fare. It’s a cross between a traditional taverna and a no-frills deli, with displays full of cold cuts and local cheese lined up right next to rustic tables and stone walls. The menu focused more on hearty Greek dishes and some Turkish-style offerings rather than street food staples like gyros and souvlaki.

How To Eat Well in Athens

An Athenian restaurant I’ve been visiting for ten years now. The name of the restaurant comes from ‘Karamanlides’ – Anatolian Greeks who were forced to leave their land as part of the mass immigration exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1923. The menu is reflective of the food the Greeks ate in this region (Karaman and Cappadocia) which is why it might look more Turkish to you.

Food - Athens

Karamanlidika tou Fani is probably the most famous shop in Athens. It is a combination of a quaint tavern and an old-school butcher shop, as you can taste as well as buy the fine viands that adorn its windows. The eastern appetizers, as well as the fresh products, make it a wonderful choice for some tsipouro/ouzo with some good company.
