Reviews Summary

Krinos is celebrated for its exceptional loukoumades, consistently praised for being the best in Athens. Diners love the authentic taste, light texture, and the nostalgic atmosphere. While the loukoumades are the star, some reviews suggest other menu items don't quite reach the same level. Despite minor critiques, the historical significance and quality of the iconic Greek dessert make it a must-visit.

"Krinos is, in my opinion, the best place for loukoumades in Athens. With over a century of history, this establishment has mastered the art of making these traditional Greek doughnuts. The loukoumades are perfectly crispy on the outside, light and airy on the inside, and best enjoyed plain—without sauces or ice cream—to fully appreciate their authentic flavour. Beyond the loukoumades, however, the rest of the menu doesn’t quite reach the same level. That said, the experience is still worth it, as the place itself exudes history. The walls are adorned with old photographs and memorabilia, creating a nostalgic atmosphere. We even had the chance to chat with the owner, which added a personal touch to our visit. If you’re in Athens, Krinos is a must-visit for loukoumades lovers looking for a taste of tradition."

"A historical dessert shop. The interior is large and spacious. The bites are delicious. We liked the ones with holes in them better because they were crispier. I definitely recommend it."

Alper Öner

"A lovely, unpretentious spot to take a break while exploring the streets of Athens. The donuts were incredibly fluffy and light, not heavy on the stomach at all. The sugar syrup was just the right level of sweetness, and I highly recommend pairing it with vanilla ice cream for a perfectly balanced treat. They offer free tap water, and one portion of donuts with syrup and ice cream was just €5. It’s self-service, spacious, and has plenty of seating."

Loukoumades, the Greek donuts, is a traditional dessert worth trying. One of the best places to taste them is Krinos: based in a historical building downtown and open since 1923, here you can order loukoumades with honey syrup and cinnamon or in its modern version, topped with hazelnut praline. The atmosphere is retro with black-and-white images on the walls; the light although deep-fried and crispy loukoumades are served in plastic trays accompanied by a glass of water.
