Taverna Zisis

"We visited this taverna in Rethymno, Crete, on our way to the airport, and it turned out to be the perfect final highlight of our trip. The food was absolutely amazing. I tried snails cooked the traditional Greek way for the first time, and they were incredibly delicious — I’m a big fan of this kind of food, and Greek cuisine in general, so it was a real treat.
Everything we ordered was super fresh and full of flavor. The Greek salad had the most flavorful tomatoes and feta — just perfect. The grilled meat was also fantastic, really well-seasoned and juicy. Portions were very generous — we left completely full, and still had leftovers to take with us (which they kindly packed up for us).
The atmosphere was very welcoming, service was quick and friendly, and the prices were a pleasant surprise. The three of us ate so well — including drinks — and the whole meal came to only €67. Compared to Berlin prices, that’s just amazing value.

"The service is excellent and done with military precision. It has a wonderful modern feel to the local taverna with excellent home-cooked food to match, which was delicious. The snails are a MUST HAVE! The sweetbreads are also excellent, while the lamb intestine with pork spleen and the rabbit chops were okay. There is a full hot counter at the back where you can pick your food of the day if you're so inclined. The bathrooms are also very nice! All in all, it's a great recommendation."

"Zisis Tavern has a lovely atmosphere and very friendly service, which makes you feel welcome right away. The food was decent—more on the average side in terms of taste—but it’s a solid spot if you want to try traditional Greek cuisine in a local setting. Portions are generous and prices are fair. Overall, a good experience, just not exceptional on the flavor side."
