We didn’t see any fat cats (booooo!) or pretentiousness, but we did find a dabbing skeleton and a couple of delicious coffees at Fat Cat Coffee House!. Have you ever wondered about all the different types of coffee out there, and how you’re supposed to make them – ristretto, Americano, cappuccino, latte, and so on…?. The folks at Fat Cat Coffee have a chalkboard on the wall where they have drawn this incredible ‘genealogy’ of coffee showing all the different variations (and how much they cost).

Another great daily grind for serious coffee drinkers is Fat Cat Coffee House, located on the other side of the main square on fourth street. Though slightly pricier than the spots I’ve mentioned so far, Fat Cat has diligently procured the caliber of its coffee at every stage, forging relationships with local growers and roasting their coffee themselves. Whether you’re after a smooth cappuccino or a bold local brew, Fat Cat is making a name for itself in the international coffee world.

In the morning, hit the cobblestones and head to Fat Cat Coffee House, a café that serves locally-grown and roasted Guatemalan coffee prepared by national award-winning baristas. Take a peek at their Aeropress championship trophies while watching the staff pull shots of espresso. If you’re staying closer to the center of town, opt for GuateJava, known for its friendly baristas and emphasis on educating patrons on specialty coffee practices.

Fat Cat Coffee House offers a wide range of coffee options, including espresso, cappuccino, lattes, and a wide variety of pour-overs, all made with locally sourced and freshly roasted beans. Try a flat white, affogato, and/or a cortado (with a strong body and strong hints of dark chocolate – yum!)!. You can really tell they love their coffee here.

We made it back down from Cerro de la Cruz with a bit of time before our 10:00 AM food tour, so we visited Antigua’s original ex-pat coffee shop, Fat Cat Coffee House. And yes, Antigua has many, many coffee shops, numerous of which are modern, pricey and cater to ex-pats in town. Fat Cat was the original one of these style coffee shops.

Fat Cat offers multiple brewing methods, so you can choose to have your coffee as a pour over, aeropress, nitro, etc. Their americano was very bold with a brilliant crema, and the aeropressed coffee I had was smooth with no bite. Not only that, but their baristas are super passionate and knowledgeable about their coffees.

As a coffee roaster and home to barista classes, Fat Cat knows how to make an excellent cup of coffee, any way you like it, from espresso to cold-brew and beyond. It is a bit more expensive however (a large cappuccino costs 23Q ($3USD). Their breakfasts are simple and well-priced, although I didn’t end up trying them.

Fat Cat is one of the original and best coffee houses in Antigua. They take coffee seriously, with every kind of extraction method you could imagine and high-quality local beans. We’re big-time coffee snobs (we grew up in Melbourne) and we went back to Fat Cat Coffee House multiple times, so it must have been good!

in our opinion, Fat Cat Coffee Housemakes the best coffee in Antigua. The staff in this small family-run cafe really know their coffee and offer all kinds of brewing methods including Chemex, V60, Aero Press, cold brew, nitro and more. Fancy brewing methods aside, Fat Cat just makes a very good cup of coffee.

Since then, he has been promoting care and knowledge in the coffee community through Fat Cat alongside his brother Tito. Coffee culture goes deep into the lives of these brothers; their mother was a coffee picker in Guatemala. Now, the two are delivering the goods on the other end of the coffee chain.

There is something about it that makes me go back all the time to work while sipping a delicious coffee. They also have great banana bread and simple breakfast and lunch dishes. You can stay there and work as long as you want, but it’s nice if you get something to eat or drink every now and then.

If we’re going off the quality of the coffee alone, Fat Cat may be the numero uno cafe in Antigua. It’s just across the road from 12 Onzas and, to be honest, you can’t go wrong with either!. They know their stuff; there are about 8 pour-over varieties and all the milk blends you could dream up.

I tried as many coffee shops as I could manage to find and fit in during our trip, including the adorable Fat Cat Coffee House. I had a cubanito and an iced chai latte, and my sister got an iced dirty chai. I loved the hot drink but the iced chais weren’t my favorite (so heavy on milk).

This small coffeehouse on a busy street is not messing around (also, they have bagels?). A full coffee menu includes regular coffee items like lattes, cappucinos and americanos. As you continue reading the chalkboard, you may be interested in trying a cubanito, macchiato or flat white.

The owners take coffee very seriously, selecting the best beans from local, small batch roasters. When I was here they were doing tastings of coffee. Other famous coffee roasters were also in here ordering coffee (owner of Augies coffee roasters) - I was alerted by an excited patron.

I went to this café because I had heard many good things about it, and I was not disappointed. The coffee was delicious – I had my usual cappuccino – and the space is good to work. There’s good WiFi but not many options to plug your laptop, so keep that in mind if you need to work.

Fat Cat Coffee House has one of the best cups of coffee in Antigua Guatemala. We got their coffee takeaway at least once a week because we just loved the taste!. They serve delicious specialty coffees and their lattes are excellent (you can get it iced like me too).

The name alone is what made us want to visit Fat Cat Coffee House. We came for the name but stayed for the coffee, good vibes, and decent WiFi!. Fat Cat has been among the top 10 coffee shops in Antigua, Guatemala, since its opening in 2010.

If you appreciate good specialty coffee, Fat Cat is the place for you. The coffee bar has a minimalistic decor and has won prices for their brews. It’s a perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee or to settle down as a digital nomad.

As there were so many great coffee shops to check out in Antigua, we mostly worked from cafes. However, there are also a few solid coworking spaces in the city if you prefer a more professional remote work environment.

A favorite among locals and tourists for its excellent coffee and cozy atmosphere. There’s no outdoor seating, but the staff is friendly and accommodating, often allowing patrons to enjoy their coffee on the sidewalk​

Make sure you visit Fat Cat Coffee, Cafe Estudio and Artista de Cafe for the best coffee in the city. The best cafes for remote working include Rainbow Café, Bella Vista Coffee, Café Barista and Fernando’s Kaffee.

This was my favorite place to get drinks in Antigua Guatemala and yes, it’s COFFEE!. You can’t come to Guatemala and skip the coffee culture. The place has such a cool, locals-hang-here vibe.

Fat Cat (4a Calle Oriente #14 A) – Fat Cat probably offers the biggest selection of coffee preparation methods in Antigua. They roast their own coffee and have good baristas.

You can’t visit Antigua Guatemala and not try some of the locally grown coffee. The altitude, climate, and volcanic soil make Antigua a prime place to grow and roast coffee.

This coffee was all we could wish for when we got back from the volcanoes. The coffee is top notch and the chai latte also. The atmosphere is no nonsense and low key.
