In December, we had brunch at Dobrumba, which added a refreshing and innovative flavour to Budapest mornings. Loyal to their style, they brought great Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes tuned for the morning, with pastries and just the right vegetable–protein–starch ratio. You could say they have a thematic concept, which quickly found appreciative customers: brunch menus run from Thursday to Sunday, from 9 am, with a full house of course, so reservations are recommended.

When I'd like to impress my friends that Budapest has restaurants as hip as those in New York's East Village, I take them out to Dobrumba. It's especially enjoyable in the warmer months when the oversized windows swing open and the ear-catching electronic music wafts into the street.

You really can’t go wrong with freshly baked pita and a selection of creamy, vibrant dips, and that’s exactly what Dobrumba does so well. The restaurant is not fully vegan but offers a selection of plant-based dips and some easily customized dishes that will leave any meat and dairy dodger fully satisfied.

I stumbled across Dobrumba in January 2019 when I was looking for somewhere for dinner and now it’s often said to be one of the trendiest restaurants in Budapest. Dorbumba has two locations in the city where you can share tapas with friends and bigger plates as well. The food is a cross culture fusion between North African, Mediterranean and Middle Eastern which makes for delicious fresh and fragrant flavour combinations.

On the other side of the river, in the city’s Jewish quarter, is Dobrumba, a small and unassuming neighborhood restaurant serving Israeli/Mediterranean cuisine. One comes across a lot of falafel and hummus in Budapest, and Dobrumba has the best (do not be fooled by what you hear about Mazel Tov, a restaurant with a similar menu—the line is long, and the food is meh (yes, we ate there).

Dobrumba was hands-down Bunny’s favourite restaurant in Budapest!. It is a simply decorated but attractive place in the heart of the city and it has the best veggie food in town. Dobrumba is not a vegetarian restaurant per se but the creative international menu offers a wide choice for vegetarians and vegans alike.

A reservation is needed here as we tried it twice without one and didn’t get a table. So during busy times, we advise that you call and reserve a table in advance. Dobrumba is focused on middle eastern food.

This has lots of vegetarian dishes like shakshuka, spinach and feta fatoush and roast cauliflower and tahini salad, and a selection of smaller mezze dishes perfect for sharing.
