Popular Cafe Loki has a great vantage point; opposite the rocket-shaped Hallgrimskirkja​ church, one of Reykjavik's most iconic sights. Nearby Reykjavik Roasters is a hipster favourite, with eye-catching decor such as a giant blue roasting machine, cold-brew paraphernalia and a vintage record player (on which Lou Reed's Transformer album is revolving when I visit). They serve fine coffee, too, including very decent flat whites on request.

The reason I want to include this cute little café is that it has one of the best views in Reykjavik, great menu packed with local Icelandic delicacy and good prices!. The Café is located directly across from Hallgrimskirkja which means that you can enjoy this stunning building inside a warm house while drinking your coffee. If you are coming to Iceland two things should be on your culinary bucket list and you can try both at Café Loki.

With time to kill before check-in we stumbled into Café Loki, which is where Iceland’s much-loved rye bread ice cream was invented. Along with a pancake with skyr and caramel sauce, smoked trout and cottage cheese on house-made rye bread and “meat soup,” we also thoroughly enjoyed their one-of-kind house-made ice cream. It is hard to describe other than that it tastes like vanilla ice cream with chocolate nibs in it, and we loved it.

The Loki Café is just a stone's throw from Hallgrimskirkja Cathedral in the heart of Reykjavík, a delicious and inexpensive little restaurant where you can try all the local specialties without breaking the bank. For under 2,000 ISK you can try some very popular Scandinavian dishes. For example, the bravest among you can try Hákarl (fermented shark meat) or the rye toast topped with fish (much like Smørrebrød in Denmark).

Last on the list is the fabulous Café Loki, an Icelandic restaurant located right across Reykjavik’s Hallgrímskirkja church. It’s all about classic home-style Icelandic cuisine here at Loki. In addition to their lunch and dinner menus, which include Icelandic classics such as steamed cod and Icelandic lamb served with garlic-roasted potatoes, root vegetables, and demi-glace sauce, their breakfast menu is also impressive.

This family-run establishment of traditional fare can be found across the way from Hallgrímskirkja and just so happens to have a great view of the church façade and Leifur Eiriksson statue. While we waited, Bára described the colourful mural on the one side of the room, depicting sagas of Loki, his enemies, and lovers. It was a bit complicated to follow at moments, unlike the plates we were served.

Continuing our food walk, past Hallgrimskirkja (the iconic church dominating the Reykjavik skyline) brings us to Café Loki. In addition to a fascinating mural that Juliana narrated for us (click on their website and scroll to the bottom), we sampled 3 rye bread specialties at Cafe Loki. Rye bread is very common here, but different than the rye bread we have in the States.

Café Loki in Reykjavík is certainly a place to check out if you're interested in trying traditional Icelandic cuisine. It may not have been entirely to my taste, but I appreciate the authenticity of the dining experience. The shark dish, for instance, while not my favorite due to its strong ammonia-like flavor, was nonetheless an interesting culinary adventure.

This is a restaurant where many guides will point you if you’re looking for a taste of real Icelandic cuisine. If you would like something different and have an authentic experience, witnessing ‘hverabrauð’ cooked underground near a hot spring in front of your eyes and then get to taste it, then you can visit Laugarvatn Fontana geothermal baths which are located on the popular Golden Circle route or you could visit Café Loki by church Hallgrímskirkja to taste it.

Yet another spot for traditional Icelandic cuisine, we were only here for dessert – rye bread ice cream topped with rhubarb syrup and whipped cream. There’s no where else in Reykjavik that serves rye bread ice cream and I honestly have no idea why because it was amazing. The tartness of the rye bread perfectly balanced out the otherwise sweet ice cream.

Nearby we head to Cafe Loki, a restaurant serving traditional Icelandic cuisine. It also has a Hallgrímskirkja theme, decked out in photos of the church shot at different times of day and offering beautiful views of the landmark from their windows. Instead of trying one traditional dish, we savor two combined in the form of rye bread ice cream.

Enjoy the great view of Hallgrímskirkja while having your brunch. It is a cultural experience here at Café Loki, where they serve traditional menu items like Icelandic skyr pancakes and carrot cakes. The adventurous foodies may want to try the “Loki Platter” which consists of hakarl (fermented shark meat), dried fish, cheese and smoked trout.

And the ryebread ice cream suggests that the UK's brown-bread equivalent, a 1980s staple, might be due a comeback.

Café Loki came highly recommended by Icelandair as the best place for Icelandic food. Located in front of Hallgrímskirkja Church, one of Reykjavik’s top attractions, Café Loki is at a prime location to attract tourists and locals visiting Hallgrímskirkja church and Einar Jónsson Sculpture Garden. There are two floors in Cafe Loki.

If you and your clan are eager to try some local Icelandic delicacies with your breakfast, Cafe Loki is the perfect restaurant. Sample local delicacies like smoked fish, rye bread, and of course, skyr!. However, you can still play it safe with bagels and pancakes if your family includes eaters who are not so adventurous.

As mentioned in my post about the top places to eat in Iceland, Café Loki is one of our favorite restaurants. Even though it isn’t really a “coffee shop,” Ashley made the claim that it was the best coffee of our whole trip HANDS DOWN. That’s quite a bold claim coming from someone who is as addicted to coffee as she is!

Although it’s a tourist spot, Café Loki offers some of Reyjavik’s best views and a menu specializing on authentic Icelandic cuisines. The prices here are also reasonable despite the competitive quality of their servings. Aside from enjoying hot coffee, it’s a great experience to try some of the café’s iconic dishes.

The rye bread ice cream is fantastic; it might sound a bit strange, but in my opinion, it actually tastes more like cookie dough. I managed to convince my girlfriend that it was good; she was pretty skeptical beforehand 🤣. I went to Café Loki for the first time in 2018 and have since been back multiple times.

At the top of the street just across from the iconic cathedral, Hallgrimskirkja, was our final food destination for some coffee and dessert. Cafe Loki is a relaxed venue producing great home-style traditional food. The second-floor wall has a huge colourful mural depicting a number of Norse mythology scenes.

The treat sounds odd, but your taste buds don’t have to be Icelandic to enjoy. Café Loki’s convenient location across from Reykjavík’s Hallgrímskirkja churchmakes it easy to access, so stop by for a bite of this or other Icelandic foods after a visit to the top of the chapel-slash-architectural masterpiece.

The humble restaurant was started by two sisters, who slowly grew the business to include multiple floors and the building next store. If the upstairs is open, choose to sit up there.

Both places serve that rotting shark delicacy that I was not brave enough to try. I remember them not being so expensive, but little is truly cheap in Iceland.

This café has arguably one of the best locations in the city; it’s on the square in front of Hallgrímskirkja. From its windows, you can view the 74.5-meter-high church in all its glory. This spot focuses more on the food side of things than drinks, serving a range of traditional Icelandic dishes.

In the lowest budget tier (still not all that low, this is Iceland we’re talking about), we have Café Loki serving up flatbread with all fixings; on the high-end we have the take-no-prisoners gastronomic berserkers at Dill; and somewhere in the middle price tier we have Matur og drykkur.

First off, let me tell you that the smoked lamb here is to die for. It's tender, smoky, and absolutely delicious. But what really caught my attention was the rye bread ice cream - a unique and surprisingly delightful dessert option.

The second floor dining room was half full when we arrived at about 10am. There was a small line of folks waiting for tables when we left at 11. We were looking forward to visiting Café Loki and ended up really enjoying our meal.
