What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
ROK is lauded for its cozy ambiance, innovative Icelandic tapas, and extensive vegan options, offering a unique dining experience with views of Hallgrímskirkja church. While many praise the fantastic food and friendly service, some find the portions small for the price and the tables are situated closely together, which can lead to a crowded feeling.
"The food was amazing! I went during lunch time so I was able to get the Lunch Special that includes 2 items on the menu for about $32. The fish stew with rye bread was so comforting, and the Icelandic Char with pickles and capers were so good. It was savory and simply delicious.
The service was great as well. The staff are very kind and the restaurant's atmosphere is great for a small celebration lunch or dinner."

"Incredible atmosphere and amazing food! We had a great time at ROK and will definitely be back if we are ever in Iceland again! We asked for the whipped cream on the side of the brownie and they were very accommodating."

"This was a very busy place. We got lucky to be outside seated within a few minutes due to people leaving when we arrived. I recommend making a reservation if you need immediate seating at a specific time vs trying your luck.
The portions of food for the plate was adequate. They recommend 2-4 items per person which was very accurate. The staff was very friendly even though they were slammed, so that was a plus. The cocktail drinks are a little pricey (summer bloom - 3290kr), but very good and worth it.
Every dish was great but read the description and ask questions if you're unsure.
Cured Reindeer - delicious! Packed with flavor and has a unique texture (was not a fan of texture but was good)
Caesar Salad - great salad and the chicken was excellent
Beef Tenderloin - cooked the way we liked and was delicious.
Beef in a Pancake - everything about this dish was wonderful. If you do not like blue cheese, I would not recommend this.
Definitely try to stop by and have a drink or eat some good food at ROK"

Best Vegan Restaurants in Reykjavik
Head to Rok if you are in the mood for some great Icelandic food. The restaurant is located very close to Hallgrimskirkja church in Reykjavik, the biggest church in the country, and serves an extensive vegan and vegetarian menu. Although, the restaurant was not always on the list of the top vegan restaurants in the city one of the owner, Magnus Scheving, started to add more and more plant-based dishes to the menu starting from 2016 which ultimately made it into one of the top places people prefer for having vegan food.
WHERE TO EAT
Tucked onto the cutest street you’ll ever see, next to the famous Hallgrímskirkja Church, Rok serves an Icelandic version of Tapas, which after 5 days of eating Icelandic food, was a nice change. The menu when we were there was wintery (because, um, it was winter) and was pretty perfect: Christmas lamb chops with cumin, pulled pork, duck comfit and the like. We also had a ptarmigan soup, which was insanely good.
Your weekend guide to Reykjavík's best brunches
While the approach to dining here is decidedly fine, the vibe and presentation are purely come-as-you-are casual. Rok’s striking black-stained timber two-storey hosts one of the tastiest brunches in town. You’ll feel as though you’ve been invited to a laid-back house party (with dim, flattering lighting to boot) while savouring the blue cheese eggs florentine, chestnut mushroom toast or slow-cooked beef tacos.
Places to eat in Reykjavik
Casual fine dining' is how ROK sells itself: high quality food in a relaxed environment. Small sharing plates include such dishes as Icelandic mussel in a creamy white wine sauce, flavoured lamb rib eye with smoked peppers and mint, and salmon ceviche with passion fruit, cucumber, avocado, garlic, chili and lime. Champagne happy hour from 16.00-19.00 daily makes this a great spot for a fun and relaxed dinner.
A vegan guide to Reykjavik - City Guides
Just a stone’s throw from Iceland’s tallest church, ROK offers several vegan dishes. Although not exclusively vegan, the owners – one of whom is Magnus Scheving, creator of kids’ TV show Lazy Town and who played the character Sportacus – have increased the number of plant-based dishes since opening in 2016. It’s not hard to find this rustic restaurant, thanks to its distinctive black exterior and turf roof.
The Best Bars in Reykjavik
Rok is first and foremost a restaurant — and a very, very good one at that — but its champagne happy hour cannot be left off the list. If you’re looking to treat yourself to an unforgettable meal with an uncommon twist on champagne (it’s served with liquorice and cantaloupe), this is the place to visit. After spending a few minutes in the cozy restaurant and you won’t want to leave.

Reykjavík's Top Brunch Places: A Journey Through Iceland's Capital
My brunch at ROK in Reykjavík was a truly delightful experience. I loved the concept of the restaurant - a variety of small dishes categorized by the main protein, greens, and sweets. The flexibility of ordering anywhere from 2 to 5 dishes and the lack of a rigid structure like entrees, main, and dessert added to the relaxed ambiance of the place.
