Head to Rok if you are in the mood for some great Icelandic food. The restaurant is located very close to Hallgrimskirkja church in Reykjavik, the biggest church in the country, and serves an extensive vegan and vegetarian menu. Although, the restaurant was not always on the list of the top vegan restaurants in the city one of the owner, Magnus Scheving, started to add more and more plant-based dishes to the menu starting from 2016 which ultimately made it into one of the top places people prefer for having vegan food.

Tucked onto the cutest street you’ll ever see, next to the famous Hallgrímskirkja Church, Rok serves an Icelandic version of Tapas, which after 5 days of eating Icelandic food, was a nice change. The menu when we were there was wintery (because, um, it was winter) and was pretty perfect: Christmas lamb chops with cumin, pulled pork, duck comfit and the like. We also had a ptarmigan soup, which was insanely good.

While the approach to dining here is decidedly fine, the vibe and presentation are purely come-as-you-are casual. Rok’s striking black-stained timber two-storey hosts one of the tastiest brunches in town. You’ll feel as though you’ve been invited to a laid-back house party (with dim, flattering lighting to boot) while savouring the blue cheese eggs florentine, chestnut mushroom toast or slow-cooked beef tacos.

Casual fine dining' is how ROK sells itself: high quality food in a relaxed environment. Small sharing plates include such dishes as Icelandic mussel in a creamy white wine sauce, flavoured lamb rib eye with smoked peppers and mint, and salmon ceviche with passion fruit, cucumber, avocado, garlic, chili and lime. Champagne happy hour from 16.00-19.00 daily makes this a great spot for a fun and relaxed dinner.

My brunch at ROK in Reykjavík was a truly delightful experience. I loved the concept of the restaurant - a variety of small dishes categorized by the main protein, greens, and sweets. The flexibility of ordering anywhere from 2 to 5 dishes and the lack of a rigid structure like entrees, main, and dessert added to the relaxed ambiance of the place.

Rok is a wonderful, rustic restaurant located close to Hallgrímskirkja. Despite its small size, this cozy little restaurant is easy to spot, thanks to its black paint and green turf roof – you can even see it from the church’s main entrance!. Rok has a tapas-style menu, with customers choosing two or three dishes each when they order.

This stylish, casual fine dining restaurant is well located on Frakkastigur in downtown Reykjavik. It offers a special seasonal menu in December, making it one of the best restaurants in Reykjavik for New Year’s Eve. But year-round, it serves inventive and tasty dishes.
