Sandholt Bakery – This restaurant was right next to our hotel and we popped over one day for a quick lunch. As far as regular food (think salads and sandwiches), they offered a decent amount of dairy free and vegan options, as well as dishes that could easily be made dairy free. We both enjoyed open-faced sandwiches with avocado, salsa and a fried egg.

I stopped here a handful of times and always got the bread of the day with jam — even though I’m not generally a jam person, I loved the contrast of the sweet with the vigorous texture and flavor of the bread. This bakery-café also offers some vegan options among their sourdough sandwiches, salads, and pastries and is centrally located on Laugavegur.

This bakery has been around for years and is a go-to spot for locals begin situated on the main high street. There are also plenty of options to sit in for lunch and sandwiches here too.

Sandholt was the first place we stopped into upon arriving in Reykjavik. It’s a cafe that sells coffee, pastries and sandwiches among other things. For a single shot latte and a vanilla Danish (both which I highly recommend) it cost me about $8 USD, not too bad considering the prices of Starbucks.

Rarely do I eat anything from a bakery and the same applied here. My husband had a sandwich, which was delightful. I tried Skyr an Icelandic yogurt that is similar to Greek yogurt, only it’s a little smoother and is full of protein.

Sandholt Bakery – we popped in here while we shopped and explored Reykjavik’s main street and we devoured the tastiest pastries. My favorite treat was a delicious, citrusy lemon tart, and we also ate yummy quiche and pretzel bread.

This was one of my favorite for baked goods, breakfast, and coffee. Also, the clean modern design and aesthetic was pretty especially for taking some photos for Instagram. They also serve sandwiches and have organic wine as well.

First of all, let me just say that the desserts at Sandholt are out of this world. They are rich, creamy and absolutely delicious. I couldn't resist trying more than one, and let me tell you, it was worth every calorie.
