We couldn’t believe how many lobster tails they gave us in the order!

We took this trip with a different group of friends than our first trip and this was one of our only requirements as to where to eat and it did not disappoint anyone (and we set high expectations for this place).

Tapas barinn has to be at the top of the list of gluten free friendly restaurants. It is extremely accommodating, and even serve gluten free beer (some bars sell gluten free beer but very few restaurants). This is one of the very few restaurants that is takes care to serve a whole dish even though it’s gluten free.

Tapas Barinn really is a must-try for visitors to Reykjavik. It has a great reputation and is known for their special tasting menu of “Icelandic Tapas” – it sounds crazy, and it is!. Their Icelandic Tapas may seem intimidating, but the seven-course meal is brought out to you as and when it’s cooked.

The food was good, but I was not a fan of jam packed it was ,etc so we have only been that one time. For more family style, look at Messinn as their dishes are in big pans and you can easily share one pan for 2-3 people. My husband and I always share and still cannot eat it all.

Many restaurants don’t have a bar suitable for eating at, but at those that do (Fishmarket and Tapas Barinn are two), eating at the bar is a great alternative if all the tables are full or if you only want to have a few light bites.

If you want to try different Icelandic foods, splurge on the tasting menus. If cool ambience is your thing, Apotek is located in one of the first pharmacies in Iceland (Apotek actually means ‘pharmacy’ in Icelandic).

This very cosy Spanish tapasbar is located next to cosy cafe Stofan and across the street from foodie hotspot Fish Company. When the weather is nice you can take a seat at the outside terrace.
