Reviews Summary

Torii is celebrated for its stunning ambiance designed by Gauri Khan and its innovative Asian cuisine, with dishes like Mapo Tofu and Shibuya Toast receiving high praise. However, some diners have noted inconsistencies in food flavor and occasionally experienced less-than-ideal service, particularly during closing hours, and found the music to be too loud.

"I tried quite a few dishes at Tori and it was definitely an interesting mix of flavors.
• Mapo Tofu: Made with chili bean, Sichuan pepper, and spring onion. The tofu was incredibly soft, probably the best texture I’ve had in tofu so far. I paired it with sticky vegetables fried rice, which I hadn’t tried before, and it went surprisingly well.
• Kung Pao Lotus Root: Crispy in texture but personally not my favorite.
• Dumplings (Lotus Root & Water Chestnut): Served as four cute portions, and these were absolutely yummy. Light but flavorful.
• Sizzling Cottage Cheese: The paneer was very soft and cooked to perfection. A delicious dish overall.
• Dessert – Shibuya Toast: This was the highlight for me. The presentation was stunning, the dessert arrived in a dome form, which was cracked open at the table to reveal seasonal fruits, honey ice cream, and salted caramel sauce. A perfect sweet ending.
• Non-Alcoholic Drinks:
• Carel Cares: My absolute favorite mocktail on the first try. It had caramel and apple, and the taste literally blew my mind. On my second visit though, it fell a little flat, so that was slightly disappointing.
• Sherry Mon Sheri: A refreshing mix of yuzu, pineapple, and coconut. Balanced and really good.

Overall, Tori offered a mix of hits and misses for me, but the standout dishes Mapo Tofu, Dumplings, Shibuya Toast, and the Carel Cares mocktail (on a good day) made it worth the visit."

"We visited Tori Restaurant at 4 PM, where our friend was already waiting and had ordered food in advance. Shortly after we sat down, the restaurant manager approached us in a very impolite manner, informing us that the restaurant was closed. There was no effort to communicate kindly or even consider that we were already dining. Instead, the staff kept staring at us, creating an uncomfortable and unwelcoming atmosphere until we felt compelled to leave. While I understand that the restaurant closes around 4 PM, hospitality and service should extend until guests have finished their meals. Such behavior from the management is unacceptable and reflects poorly on their commitment to customer care.

On a positive note, the food was truly excellent, with every dish surpassing our expectations in flavor and presentation. The decor of the restaurant is also stunning, creating a warm and inviting ambiance that unfortunately did not match the service we experienced.

While the culinary experience was fantastic, the lack of basic courtesy and hospitality from the staff left a sour taste. Good food and decor mean little if the service drives guests away. I hope they work on improving their attitude towards customers to match the quality of their food."

"This restaurant is owned by Gauri Khan and has oriental cuisine. The ambience is quite good. The food is supposedly Japanese. However, some of the dishes were bland and the others were good. Consistency was missing. The dessert was excellent though. Recommended for visiting once and trying it out for oneself."
