Bread & Chocolate is everyone’s favourite from locals to tourists, and for good reason; they’ve got the authentic French croissant thing nailed with the texture and airiness. Eating healthy is my way to go so when I’m in the mood to indulge, I only like to do it with the best quality ingredients which are worth the calories. I’m also biased towards the chocolate and plain croissants found in the Le Pondicherry bakery of my dad’s hotel, The Promenade.

Primed for Pondicherry’s community of digital nomads, tourists and slightly more discerning backpackers, Bread and Chocolate’s ethos is all about using top-quality ingredients to serve what the people want. Sometimes that’s fiery Goan flavours with an Asian twist – as with their recent pop-up from Bangalore-based chef Rhia Aaron – and other times it’s a plant-based Buddha Bowl or simply a really good pain au chocolat. Their sourdough pizzas are a staple on the menu, as are their classic brunch dishes.

Whether you visit the White Town outlet or the cafe at Auroville, Bread & Chocolate promises flavourful and wholesome dishes for the health-conscious foodies. The folks from Mason & Co chocolates have launched Bread & Chocolate, a little gem located on the Auroville Main Road. Once you make your way into this tiny cafe, you’ll spot the counters stacked with artisan goodies from fresh-baked breads to golden-brown tart shells lined with ruby red strawberries. The sandwiches made with fragrant focaccia bread and their nutritious salads are worth ordering as well.

Even though there are limited options on the menu, that is no reason to be disappointed, as it will make you keep coming back for more.

The definition of upmarket, Bread and Chocolate is a chocolatier, gelato maker and bakery with an elegant rooftop dining room selling small plates and full meals from breakfast dishes to dinner. We treated ourselves a couple of times here and had some excellent lunches from a Mexican bean salad wrapped in dosa to a roast vegetable and quinoa poke bowl. You’ve head of Tex-Mex, now try some Mex-ian!

As the name suggests, this cafe is literally all about bread and chocolate — but not any ordinary kind. They create their own artisanal bean-to-bar chocolates & sourdough breads that are a class apart. Their breads are incredibly soft and fluffy on the inside but crusty on the outside, while their chocolates carry a rich and dense flavor of dark chocolate that make them irresistibly scrumptious.

Although I was too late for 7am but I managed to have the best crisp croissant ever in my life!. Their menu card doesn’t' have much choices to offer but you can definitely enjoy their soft perfectly cooked pancakes. Topped with freshly cut bananas and pomegranate and some honey syrup to go with it, this is something over which i have already fallen!

Gelato Factory 100 mtrs or so on the left before Bread & Chocolate when you are driving up towards Auroville from ECR. Run by an Italian couple who got agitated by what passes for Gelatos in India that they returned to Italy to formally learn the art and set this up. Would not recommend their outlet on Mission Street.

Don’t worry, the restaurant might be named Bread & Chocolate, but they don’t only sell bread and/or chocolates. In fact, they sell all kinds of good stuff; From delicious pizzas to stuffed wraps or indeed chocolates. Most options are vegan, but you can choose to have chicken with it.

This adorable café in Auroville is definitely a must-visit for excellent confections, bread and great energy!. I regret not trying the large, delicious-looking chocolate croissants on display!. You will find clean, raw, fresh ingredients in your lunch bowls, sandwiches and salads!

This technically isn’t a Pondicherry cafe since it’s down the road in Auroville. However, I’d recommend making this detour, firstly to visit Auroville as a day trip and secondly, to eat this delectable brunch. Of all the Western meals I ate in India, this was arguably the best.

We didn’t exactly try the Bread & Chocolate cafe in White Town Pondicherry. But, we did have lunch at the Bread & Chocolate Cafe in Auroville. And the food was really delicious.
