Reviews Summary

Chingari offers a captivating rooftop dining experience with North Indian and Mughlai cuisine, praised for its romantic ambiance and flavorful dishes like kebabs and biryanis. While many highlight the exceptional service and enchanting views, some reviews note that the food, though good, might not always reach 'wow' levels for the price, and service can occasionally be slow. It's highly recommended for special occasions and intimate dinners.

"Chingari sits on the rooftop of the majestic Sheraton Grand Hotel. Twinkling lights from potted plants and the lapping water from the swimming pool is enchanting. The Mughlai cuisine helmed by Chef Gulam Quereshi is top notch. Recently, Jerlyn and I had a tasting menu from the new Third Generation menu inaugurated in the new year. Course after course came and as we ate I found some to be mouthwatering. The potato crusted moong tiki was delicious and the lamb on a bone in a kulcha was delectable and tasted even better the next day. The prawns were flavorful. Dal Makhani was fusion cooking as the lentils were a touch sour and topped with burrata which traditionally is served with bitter vegetables. The moong dal needed more seasoning to liven it up. The biryani with the raita was good. Roomali roti was warm and eaten up quickly to savor each morsel. Heera, the mixologist, gave us a Darbari mocktail which was luscious and was similar to sangria. By the time desserts were offered, I asked if a wheelbarrow was also available? Alas, no.

Chef Gulam is a master with ras (taste) in his fingers. He is a humble chef who creates magic with his cuisine. I plan on dining here again when I visit Pune."

"As you walk into Chingari , the rooftop restaurant at Sheraton, Pune, you are blown away by the cozy ambience, the dimly lit tables, lilting music and a faint breeze that blows over the swimming pool. It’s the perfect spot for a first date, a special occasion or if you want to make up to your loved one! A beautiful lamp shade illuminates the many tables that are scattered around the pool and the bar. The menu is expansive with dishes classified based on the method of preparation. For instance, the 1st generation ‘Rivayaat’ focus on food items made on sigree while the 2nd generation or Virasat employs the tandoor technique. The 3rd generation is based on modern gastronomy using sous vide and foams. I got to experiment dishes from all three generations, the first one being Gilawat-e-Chingari, a minced lamb patty placed on a crispy roti, that was a melt in the mouth from the 1st generation. Next up was the ‘Bhattiyar ke Jhinge’, tiger prawns marinated in ginger garlic flavoured hung curd, a 2nd generation masterpiece prepared in a tandoor. The masala was a little overpowering but the prawns were extremely fresh. Last I tried the macchi tikka that was served with foam and amuse bouche, showcasing modern gastronomy. In between meals, we sipped on a rose pinacolada garnished with rose petals, a perfect cooler that gave us respite from the summer heat! For the mains, I tried Nalli Nihari, a mutton stew that was a perfect melt-in-the-mouth. The flavours were much muted as against the ones I have tried before but the chef explained that because its a breakfast staple, it is made with minimum masalas. Stuffed to the core, we dived in straight for the desserts. Gulab jamun, kesar phirni and kulfi falooda added the much needed sweetness to the evening. The portions are huge so its advisable to order smaller quantities. We left home with our tummy and heart full.
If you are looking for a romantic spot that guarantees you great food, look no further and dine under the stars at Chingari!"
