Reviews Summary

Kashi Chat Bhandar is a legendary spot for chaat in Varanasi, celebrated for its vibrant street food atmosphere and unique dishes like Tamatar Chaat. While many rave about the authentic flavors and the experience, some visitors find it overcrowded and consider the taste to be average or overhyped compared to its reputation. Hygiene is also a recurring concern for some patrons.

"Kashi Chaat Bhandar is an absolute gem, a culinary institution that truly captures the vibrant spirit and flavors of Varanasi! Stepping into Kashi Chaat Bhandar is an experience in itself, a delightful assault on the senses with the tantalizing aromas of spices, the sizzling of fresh ingredients.
Their chaat is legendary, a perfect symphony of textures and tastes. From the crispy aloo tikki to the tangy dahi bhalla and the spicy, sweet, and sour explosion of their mixed chaat, every single item is crafted with an almost artistic precision. You can taste the freshness of the ingredients, the perfect balance of spices, and the generations of expertise that have gone into perfecting these iconic dishes.
Their most famous and must have chaat is tamater chaat. Aloo tikki, dahi bhalla, papri chaat, bhalla papdi, dahi puchka, etc are full of taste and flavours.
One must also have Kulfi falooda, to satisfy one's sweet tooth."

Rupali Khetan

"I recently visited this place, and it was extremely crowded. Chat Bhandar offers a variety of chaats, so I decided to try their popular Tamatar Chaat and Aloo Tikka Chaat. Honestly, both were quite average. The Tamatar Chaat tasted more like the kind of potato curry you'd find at a traditional bhandara, and the Aloo Chaat didn't stand out either. I really don't understand the hype it felt overrated. Hygiene was also a big concern, and it seemed like most people were eating there just because others were, not for the actual taste.

Overall, it was an average experience."

Akkee Mourya

"The most famous chaat shop in Banaras and absolutely worth all the fame it has earned.

Tomato chat is a must try. Further you can try Palak chaat, Aloo Tikki, Dahi papdi, and samosa. Everything is so simple and tasty that you just want to add another dish in your order.
staff is very courteous and they serve you with smile and their suggestions.

Satisfy your sweet tooth with hot gulab jamuns."

You can spot the 60-year-old Kashi Chaat Bhandar from the crowd around it. While the shop offers over a dozen kinds of chaats like palak patta chaat, aloo tikki, golgappe, dahi ke batashey, and dahi badey it is the tamatar ki chaat, a Varanasi signature, that will win your heart. “We put many, many things in it… there is tomato, of course, which we cook in ghee for hours, then there is boiled potato for body, and a special gravy that gives it its signature taste, also chaashni” you might overhear the proprietor tell stories of his chaat to tourists in his typical sing-song Banarasi style lilt as he puts on a show while assembling it.

Kashi Chat Center – Keep walking down Dashashwamedh Road until you get to the crazy intersection, then cross the street, and keep going straight for about 5 more minutes and you’ll reach the Kashi Chat Bhandar. This is a favorite Indian street food snack location in Varanasi. I started with dahi puri, little hollow chips filled with yogurt and spices (similar to pani puri but full of curd instead of tamarind water), spinach chaat, a crunchy spinach snack, and finally gulab jamun for dessert.

Destination Guide: Varanasi, India

PinPinOur next stop was Kashi Chaat Bhandar, a highly recommended place by several friends. We ordered the tamatar chaat, a Varanasi specialty of cooked tomatoes and potatoes, served with a thin, spicy curry and topped with salty, crunchy namakpara (deep-fried pastry bits). I loved the sweet-spicy combination of the chaat and also the subtle textural contrast of the namakpara; it sort of reminded me of the Maharashtrian dish of misal (though the flavour profile was different).
