Sarong and its sister, Mamasan, are both owned by celebrity Chef Will Meyrick, better known as The Street Food Chef. On 11th November at Sarong’s intimate Kitchen Sessions: East Java, Chef Will transported us back to the markets and streets of Surabaya, Madura and other lesser-known towns with his newly inspired menu. The evening opened with elevated entrées of sate kelopo (chicken marinated in East Javanese spices and shredded coconut, served with cucumber, chilli and pickles) and Surabaya tofu salad, locally known as tahu tek, consisting of a wok-fried omelette, homemade lontong (rice cake) and potatoes served with saos kacang petis (a sauce made from peanuts and black fermented shrimp paste) and a beansprout salad.

Sarong, Mamasan and Tiger Palms HAVE TO be on everyone's list if they're making a Seminyak food guide!. They're technically restaurants, but they're so good I wanna put them on my list (so what don't care lol). Mamasan is my ultimate recommendation whenever people ask me the place to have really good food in Seminyak), Sarong and Tiger Palms are pretty good but nowhere close to Mamasan, FYI these three restaurants are owned by the same person, the amazing Will Meyrick!

A favorite placed in the middle of Petitenget, Sarong serves infamously massive portions of Asian-fused dishes such as a combination of Thai and Indian flavors. From crispy pork belly and tempura zucchini flowers to Tandoori chicken and garlic naan, it is easy to find a variety of options for each appetite. Remember to tell the waiter earlier in case you don’t like your plate spicy, as some of the flavors by default are at the medium to very spicy side.
