Clear Cafe is an incredible space and well-deserved spot in this where to eat in Ubud guide, with quirky features such as a koi pond, circle doors, winding staircases and so much more for you to take in as you dine here. Their philosophy is ‘organic, delicious, pure, natural’ and it is bang on, you can really taste the freshness in each dish and know that what you are eating is simple, there is nothing unnecessary added and that allows all of the natural flavours to blossom. Clear Cafe is mostly vegan and vegetarian but they also offer a few fish dishes as they want to be inclusive of everyone.

In the sometimes hectic, touristic streets of Ubud, Clear Café is the perfect allrounder chill place with sofas and cushions on two intertwined bright yet sun-shaded floors. Open daily from 8am to 11pm you can enjoy not only delicious and healthy but also organic Bali food all day long made of produces from local farmers from all over the island. The menu is such a well-chosen, versatile mix of favourites from Indonesia and Thailand all the way to Middle East, Mexico and even Japan that it is hard to believe that one could leave this place not feeling absolutely delighted.

It’s actually a Balinese chain and I’ve also been to the one in Canggu. Clear Cafe has a river with Koi fish running through its ground floor and decorates the second floor with fresh marigolds every day. While it has an amazing ambiance, unfortunately, its food isn’t very good – The menu is a giant book with literally every cuisine imaginable available: Indonesian, Thai, Indian, American, Mexican, and some of the things I’ve had there have totally missed the mark.

Possibly the forerunner of Ubud’s organic restaurants, CLEAR Café is set in a gorgeous space that combines classic Balinese style with modern design. The ground floor provides plenty of seating and tall, bamboo supported ceilings, while the second story is a bit more intimate in its tree-house-like configuration. You can’t go too wrong with the menu, with pages ranging from “Raw and Macro” and “World Flavors” to “Tonics and Elixirs” and “Cool Kids”.

First of all, Clear Cafe‘s interior presents one of the most artfully inspired, relaxed, and chill atmospheres I’ve seen. Between the restaurant’s hobbit-style front door, floor seating areas, endless greenery, wooden decor, and koi fish pond, you feel like you’re getting back to nature without actually leaving the city center. The menu at Clear Cafe is extensive, with dishes ranging from salads and sandwiches, to soups and seafood.

We had not planned to dine here but upon passing we were both drawn to the large round door and decided to check it out. We are glad we did as our lentil soup was wholesome and delicious as was our vegan lasagna. With so many vegan options in Ubud it is easy to miss out the vegan friendly restaurants but this discovery shows it’s sometimes worth visiting them too, this would be a very good option if dining with non vegan friends.

Dating from the eleventh century, this is presumed to be the burial complex of King Anak Wungsu and his many wives. Reached by climbing down 371 steps, the location at the bottom of a steep valley lined with paddy fields is quite stunning. It's not easy to climb all those steps but to see one of Bali's oldest and largest ancient monuments in this lush green river valley is worth it.

It has a combination of tables on the floor, sofas with regular tables and an upstairs floor that is usually open from lunch onwards. One of my hotel mates told me about Clear Cafe and I will admit I went past it for an entire week before realising that the cute restaurant with the round door where everyone took their shoes off was actually Clear. When I stepped inside for the first time, I was amazed. The interior is refreshing and open, despite being hidden behind a thick hobbit-house style door!

This menu is almost too extensive… I find decision making hard enough with few options. Clear Cafe has everything, from fresh smoothies and power drinks, to salad bowls, vegetarian classics and, raw plates and ‘healthy’ sweets. I had my first ever vegan BLT, or TLT as they call it (Tempeh, Lettuce and Tomato) with fries… so not the healthiest, but ohhh so yummy.

We like that they take genuine care in choosing their playlists and don’t just subject you to a random barrage of noise as you eat. The view is incredible, the atmosphere is just right, and the food is delicious. Yes, it is slightly out of town, but only a few minutes by scooter/ojek.

Another favorite restaurant of mine was Clear Cafe, probably the most happening while I was there since it was pretty filled up every night with beautiful locals (i.e. Aussie expats wearing tattoos, dreads, an incredible tan, a toned yogi body, and a gleeful expression surely acquired by the simple fact of living here every day…ah!).

This treehouse-style cafe is bound to fire your children’s imagination and it’s a cool place to run about and have some fun. For those in the know, it’s also a place where visiting A-listers occasionally turn up for their children to have fun too!. Their Cool Kids Menu is super popular and has a great range of healthy choices too.

You need to remove your footwear before entering and you’ll get a numbered tag to retrieve your shoes/sandals when you leave. They have an extensive menu and everything sounded so good. We were only able to try a couple of dishes, but we overheard others around us exclaiming how much they loved the food they ordered.

Clear Cafe is one of the nicest restaurants I have ever been to in my life. It was recommended to me by a Colombian model who prefers the finer things in life so I was fully expecting to shell out a lot of money to eat here. I was surprised when the food stuck mostly to the 70-100,000 IDR ($5-7) range.

A bit of a posh cyber-twat joint again, this one felt like we had landed in Cafe del Mar. No matter, we really enjoyed the food and the upper level was a little more low-key.

One of the unique things I like about dining in Ubud is that in most places, shoes aren’t required. In fact, they’re required to be taken off in some places like Clear Café. Much like a coat check, you drop your shoes at the door, get a number, and retrieve them on the way out.

Ubud was a highlight of my Bali backpacking trip and the main reason was the amazing cafés and restaurants in this small town. Ubud is paradise for every foodie and my favorite place was Clear Café which is located in the city centre. The design of Clear Café is very unique.

It’s a great spot to escape the hustle and bustle of Ubud’s market end of town. The atmosphere is amazing and the staff is so sweet, smiling, and welcoming. Escape behind the large wooden door to the tranquil setting, running water, trees, and flowers.

A little more pricey, but definitely worth a visit – beautiful ambiance, great healthy, organic food and drinks, and next door they have a little place selling a range of delicious raw cookies, muffins, granola and crackers to take away.

We had coffee and shared a light breakfast of fruits and granola at Clear Cafe, before stopping at a spa a few doors down from Locavore to get a foot massage. Yes, a foot massage. It wasn’t something we planned on doing.

I entered Clear Cafe to see a sophisticated, spacious setting that was undoubtedly beyond my backpacking means. I took a slight detour and returned through the ornately carved revolving door to look at the menu.

Clear Cafe’s menu is filled with gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options made from locally sourced ingredients. Their refreshing juices and hearty salads make it one of the best healthy restaurants in Ubud.

Though I’m having a hard time conceptualise that saying, I’ve enjoyed eating their fresh, organic meals long before this little experiment started. Their juices and elixirs are sublime and worth a try too.

Or, visit Kafe (Jalan Hanoman), Kebun bistro, Ibu Rai (jalan monkey forest road), or Clear Cafe, which all offer a range of delicious and healthy food and drink options in a cozy setting.

My favourite find was Clear Cafe, closely followed by Watercress, but there are definitely many more places to explore for a meal perfect for both your tastebuds and your camera!

We also enjoyed the jack fruit tacos from it’s sister restaurant Cantina, and would recommend Clear Cafe at the north end of Hanoman if you need to switch up where you’re eating!
