Located in the central Ubud, within a traditional Balinese family compound lies the BEST warung that I have tried in Bali (warung refers to a small family owned business - a small eatery or cafe). I know I said that the Seniman coffee shop is the best one in the world, and here I'd like to say the same thing about this Balinese warung (once again, trust me, in my more than two months in Bali I ate in many delicious warungs). The food is so delicious, their tempeh and peanut sauce other worldly!.

Step into Sun Sun Warung, and you'll feel like you've been invited to a Balinese home for dinner. In their traditional open-air compound with its temple garden vibes, you can choose between sitting cross-legged at low tables or grabbing a regular chair. You’ll find their Nasi Campur in awe as you pick your way through tempeh, grilled chicken satay, and fresh veggies, all beautifully arranged on your plate.

The food is excellent at Sun Sun but it’s a very traditional eating environment and you should be prepared to sit on cushions on the ground to enjoy a meal here. The crispy skin on the bebek duck is one dish that you really want to look out for and it’s super full of flavour. We were also impressed with their cocktail menu, when we eat in Ubud, we’ll definitely go back to Sun Sun.

A diamond Warung serves up some of the best food on a budget around. The portions are large, the restaurant is tiny but spread out through the owner’s home grounds and the service is great. Whatever you order, we are sure it won’t disappoint.
