These sourdough sandwiches are filled with artisan cheeses from the counter, slathered in salty butter then grilled to golden, crunchy perfection. Even though it’s a tiny space with just half a dozen stools, this bar has already made an impact on the city’s foodie scene.

Upon entering, their cheese counter will assure you that sambo fillings are the best of the best, whether it’s a creamy Dunmore Brie or crumbly Cashel Blue you crave. Seats in this small but perfectly formed shop are limited, but on a sunny evening, you’ll regularly see people sprawled out on the pavement out front enjoying their toasties and wine.

Nestled into the Drury Street side of the striking George’s Street Arcade is Loose Canon, a small yet light-filled space dedicated to the ever-so-sacrosanct marriage of wine and cheese. There’s a great selection of wines available by the bottle, like Granito Cru Alvarinho and Zerodibabo rosé (a corkage fee is charged for all bottles).

The Loose Canon is definitely worth a visit if you’re in Dublin. From the cozy atmosphere that exudes warmth and hospitality, to the knowledgeable staff and delicious food, this spot has something for everyone. The wine selection is fantastic, offering organic or natural selections as well as some options by the glass or bottle.

When Brian O’Keeffe left Paris he found it difficult to find natural wines in Dublin and so he and Kevin Powell created Loose Canon to fill that gap. There you can enjoy delicious charcuterie boards alongside a huge selection of wines. On Wednesdays, they run wine tasting sessions and each session costs €36 per person.

LOOSE CANON on South William Street, a little rough around the edges when it comes to decor but with a great line in cheese toasties, couldn’t be more different, and would not be out of place in the Marais.
