Reviews Summary

Mak receives high praise for its innovative dim sum and extensive gluten-free menu, making it a standout for those with dietary needs. Diners also rave about the creative cocktails and the sophisticated yet comfortable ambiance. However, some reviews note that service can be slow, and occasionally the food can be overly salty or lack flavor balance.

"I was very happy I discovered this place. Coming across a restaurant that is full is always a good sign. The service was superb as was the food. They have an excellent gluten-free menu which I really appreciated since I hadn't eaten many of these dishes in years."

Owen O'L

"Stopped by yesterday for dinner to try out the GF Sweet & Sour Chicken and it was DELICIOUS!!! My husband had to beef basil and he enjoyed it! They also brought out rice puffs which we liked and we tried the Salt & Pepper Prawns for appetizer. Definitely recommend anyone looking for GF foods. They have a designated Coelic Menu."

Sonia Pereira

"Amazing food and cocktails. We tried 5 different starters and 5 different mains between us and everything was so good. Can’t wait to go back to the the other dishes. Service was good and very nice inside, lively on a Saturday night. Large selection of unique cocktails, I recommend the Watermelon Cooler."

Where to eat Dim Sum in Dublin

Mak has been dishing out tasty baskets of dim sum in Ranelagh since 2012 and more recently, they’ve joined forces with Zozimus just off Grafton Street, serving their Mak menu alongside a long list of great cocktails. Both are more of a fancy approach to devouring dim sum than usual, but don’t worry — they still deliver the goods. Their menu covers plenty of the favourites – steamed prawn har gau, king prawn with bamboo shoots in a translucent pastry, spicy chicken potstickers with a crispy base and they do some good tofu options.

This fun Mexican is a welcome addition to Dublin’s southside

Still, with Ireland as seemingly prosperous as we are all led to believe, it remains an incredibly difficult time to operate in both retail and hospitality — you don’t need us to labour that point. It took Jules Mak, owner of the modern Chinese spot Mak in Ranelagh, a full year from first viewing to opening the doors of his new concept, Parrilla, set on the southern edge of the neighbourhood’s main stretch on Sandford Road.

While Mak is a little outside the city centre, the food is worth the journey. With two spring rolls on offer here, meat-eaters and vegetarians alike are sure to be satisfied. We particularly like the pork spring rolls, which combine char siu pork with fresh veggies and a sweet chilli sauce, resulting in crispy, crunchy goodness.
