Mak has been dishing out tasty baskets of dim sum in Ranelagh since 2012 and more recently, they’ve joined forces with Zozimus just off Grafton Street, serving their Mak menu alongside a long list of great cocktails. Both are more of a fancy approach to devouring dim sum than usual, but don’t worry — they still deliver the goods. Their menu covers plenty of the favourites – steamed prawn har gau, king prawn with bamboo shoots in a translucent pastry, spicy chicken potstickers with a crispy base and they do some good tofu options.

Still, with Ireland as seemingly prosperous as we are all led to believe, it remains an incredibly difficult time to operate in both retail and hospitality — you don’t need us to labour that point. It took Jules Mak, owner of the modern Chinese spot Mak in Ranelagh, a full year from first viewing to opening the doors of his new concept, Parrilla, set on the southern edge of the neighbourhood’s main stretch on Sandford Road.

Mak’s wide range of dishes combined with their sophisticated and modern atmosphere, makes for an excellent choice for foodies looking to sample a tasty experience. The creator, Julian Mak, aimed to curate Hong Kong Style dim sum and Chinese cuisine alongside a stylish ambience. We like that customers can rest assured of the quality of the dishes because of the knowledgeable staff.

Mak, nestled in the charming Cullenswood Gardens of Ranelagh, Dublin, is a culinary gem that deserves every bit of praise it receives. From the moment I stepped into this quaint establishment, I was enveloped in an atmosphere that felt both welcoming and exclusive. The decor strikes a perfect balance between elegance and comfort, creating a vibe that’s hard to find elsewhere.

Between Mak, Mexican popup Gabos and his Insta cook along tutorials, Jules Mak is one of the biggest names in the Dublin food scene. He transformed Ranelagh’s old Xtra Vision (RIP) into one of the tastiest Chinese restaurants in the city, and there’s now no better spot for a feed of potstickers of a Friday evening. While Mak is a little outside the city centre, the food is worth the journey. With two spring rolls on offer here, meat-eaters and vegetarians alike are sure to be satisfied. We particularly like the pork spring rolls, which combine char siu pork with fresh veggies and a sweet chilli sauce, resulting in crispy, crunchy goodness.

The creation of brothers Ricky and Julian Mak (a second generation of restaurateur in Dublin) Mak combines Hong Kong-style dim sum and authentic Chinese cuisine in an atmosphere and setting that is perfect for either family dining, catching up with friends or a romantic evening for two.
