Head chef Barry O’Neill worked at Andy McFadden’s L'Autre Pied in London and the celebrated Bastible in Dublin before taking on the restaurant at Haddington House about three years ago. Oliveto was originally a family pasta and pizza restaurant with a beer garden and O’Neill has helped to transform the offering, creating a modern Irish-Italian menu and stunning afternoon teas. The Oliveto terrace has beautiful sea views – a rare find in Dublin given the city’s proximity to the sea – and there is a strong emphasis on fresh seafood, some of which is cooked on a Japanese konro barbecue.

We do like to be beside the seaside, especially when it’s a trip to Oliveto, the restaurant at Haddington House, which offers stunning views across Dublin Bay. The food is equally pleasing, mixing local, seasonal ingredients with quality Italian products. Oliveto is open for garden service from June 7 with a shortened menu from Monday to Thursday evenings which includes snacks like arancini, starters including San Marzano tomato with house ricotta, fresh basil and grilled sourdough, and wood-fired pizzas which are made with a 48-hour fermented dough.

Oliveto is the bar and restaurant in the Haddington House hotel, located right on Dun Laoghaire seafront is the perfect spot for a post-swim drink. Although the location isn’t the most accessible, the views from the large outdoor area will make the journey worth it. While you’re at it, why not head down to Teddy’s to sample Ireland’s most famed ice cream parlour.

Further along the seafront, Oliveto specialises in Italian dishes with an Irish twist, like Killary Fjord mussels cooked with Amalfi lemon and pancetta. Their gorgonzola risotto and giant homemade focaccia is top notch, as are the cocktails served up in the Parlour Bar. You'll also find exceptional Italian dishes in cosy La Dolce Italia on Patrick Street.

It’s hard to imagine a more idyllic place for summer dining than the outdoor terrace at Haddington House, with views out across Dún Laoghaire harbour.
