PI Pizza Dublin is another popular pick among locals on our list, offering wood-fired delights made with fresh ingredients from the best Irish artisan producers. It was born out of owner John Savage’s desire to create a pizza place similar to Roberta’s and Paulie Gee’s in New York but in Ireland, without skimping on quality. At PI, they use the finest 00 flour from Naples and leave it for 72 hours to prove, before spreading it with a fresh sauce made with Irish tomatoes; then in a 500-degree oven, the crusts become blistered, giving them a leopard effect.

While most on this list have earned their stripes over time, Pi still buzzes with newness. The dark decor feels gimmicky to me (they even do black cutlery), but there's no doubting the pedigree floating out of that big black oven. Describing themselves as "wood-fired pizza fundamentalists", Pi produces the goods in jig time at 500-degrees, and my Margherita mixed lovely, melty balls of Toonsbridge fior de latte (a soft, mozzarella-style cheese made with cow’s milk) with a bang of basil, dribbly juices and a base brandishing a neat, charred smack.

A cult favourite in the city centre, when Pi opened a few years ago, there were queues out the door and weeks to wait to get a booking, and this hype was certainly worth it. Pi keeps it simple, serving only their famous, 72 hour-risen pizzas with their signature leopard-like crust, a few dips and a great selection of drinks. However, their toppings are certainly unique, with options like Gubbeen Chorizo, Piquillo Peppers and Pickled Chillies, Roasted Pineapple Purée, Chilli-Rubbed Smoked Bacon and Lime-Pickled Onions, and so much more.

Pi was the instigator of "the great pizza debate of 2018", which we may have started after declaring it the best pizza in Dublin. A summer of hotly contested opinions followed, with Catherine Cleary agreeing with us in September, and Leslie Williams says it's as good a pizza as he's ever tasted. There was a point where the queues got a bit nutso but it's settled into nice hum, partly in thanks to the clever new queuing system that lets you go for a beer until they text to say your table's ready.

You were lucky to get a booking at PI in the first few months of its life when it opened in 2018. Only open going on six years, this pizzeria has opened a new spot in Temple Bar in the last few months, spreading its cheesy gospel into Dublin’s tourist hub. The crust has that Dalmatian spot effect, with large air bubbles that mean you won’t feel too weighed down following a pizza here, but it’s the super fresh tomato sauce that has people raving about PI long after they’ve finished their meal.

PI has become a household name in pizzas, with their wood-fired pizzas that taste like they’ve come straight from Italy. They use the freshest ingredients and create different flavours to tantalise the palate – so it’s no wonder why there are so many rave reviews!. The crust of each pizza is cooked perfectly and comes out soft yet crispy; with great topping combinations, you won’t be disappointed.

If you ever crave an incredibly good pizza, Pi is the place to go. It's quite busy at dinner time but the eatery is pretty quiet during the day and if you manage to get the big table right by the entrance, you will have plenty of room for your buggy. Also, the fact that a pizza can be eaten with one hand makes it great when baby is done sleeping and wants to join the fun around the table.

Founded by self-confessed fussy eater John Savage, Pi was created with the express intent of creating a perfect pizza, something that would rival the acclaimed pizza places of New York. And so far, they have done exactly that and Pi has become one of the most, if not the most, popular pizza place in Dublin. Their menu is simple and straightforward.

This shop opened its doors on George’s St two years ago inspired by the slices from our Brooklyn brethren. With a strict adherence to local ingredients and a literal interpretation of their recipe, this congregation is of the self proclaimed “fundamentalists.”. This is a must stop at the centre of town with infallible design and a trendy location.

While many of the other restaurants on this list offer plenty of other entrees and sides besides pizza, Pi is not that, which you might be able to tell by the minimalistic name. They are a prime example of the phrase “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”. Simply, the pizza here will not leave you craving any other dish.
