What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Saint Francis Provisions is lauded for its outstanding, innovative cuisine and warm, intimate atmosphere. Diners rave about unique dishes and exceptional service, making it a top culinary destination. While most reviews are glowing, a few critiques mentioned overly oily or tough dishes.
"Amazing food, atmosphere and service. Genuinely the best food we’ve had in a long time. The menu is small, considered and thoughtful with well balanced flavours. The wine list is well chosen. We were served by a woman who I expect was the owner as well as a very helpful guy named Jack. They cared about their customers, an intimate service you only get in a small, owner operated restaurant. The Baklava is a must! We would travel to dine here again. ⭐️"

"Vibes and food was amazing! Especially the butterhead salad and the dessert was out of this world. As a Turk, I can confirm, even the Baklava is so good and crisp!"

"I’ve lived in Ireland for 8 months. We dine out frequently. In the time we’ve been here to be VERY blunt, St. Francis Provisions is a top three dining experience! Staff was attentive but not intrusive, we we seated in outdoor dining was on a small city square that was pretty much deserted as it was drizzling (we were seated under an awning, so stayed dry)… The flood was sublime. We had the Braised Chard with Raisins/Pine Nuts and Ajo Blanco, the Grilled radishes with Macroom Ricotta (the Ricotta was stunning), the Caherberg Bavette (skirt steak?) with “Green Sauce” and Smoked Potatoes with Aioli… The starters we more than big enough, was very surprised by the radishes as they were green/sweet and not peppery, at all. The Ajo Blanco with the chard was difficult to place in my culinary lexicon - I need to learn to make it! - The Bavette was perfectly cooked and the “Green Sauce was a Chimi-churri-esque riff with capers and mint… ALL of the above were plated well, tasted great and left us wishing we had more room to try ALL the other menu items… But the thing that got me THE MOST was Chef Rebecca’s take on potatoes. Look, this is Ireland…you can’t turn over a menu in upscale dining here without new and interesting riffs on potatoes. According to Jack, the Maitre’d, these were steamed, then smoked, then fried and served with a very thick and punchy garlic aioli.
Simply, they are the finest potatoes I have eaten since moving here….
In conclusion, St. Francis is a top three favorite dinner since we moved here. The place is small and cooks at a level that you might not expect with its simple setting and “quaint tourist town” vibe…
If you get the chance, eat there. You’ll kick yourself if you don’t.
So, all things Kinsale are easy to find, on the internet…the town is lovely, and reminds me of small New England seaport towns."

Ireland’s best restaurants: Cork
Saint Francis Provisions exudes the west coast cool of something imported from America — St Francis is San Francisco — and Barbara and John Nealon’s classy destination is a “sprezzatura wunderkind”: you simply don’t see the hard graft that animates their cooking. Their toastie, for starters, builds a complex structure involving pumpkin butter, honey, candied nuts, apple and taleggio on a base of sourdough, and it makes for a sandwich that is “mouth music” all the way to the last bite. Barbara has learnt well from her time in San Francisco, so while Saint Francis may be a petite room, there is a complexity and generosity in everything they do — especially the natural wine dinners, when chef Darren Kennedy lets rip with dishes such as cod with XO sauce; Oysterhaven oysters with grapefruit vinegar; and beef cheek with pangrattato.

Bastion holds strong with its Michelin star, St. Francis Provisions retains its Bib Gourmand for outstanding quality and value, while Max’s and Rare receive honorable mentions for their exceptional dining experiences. The best restaurants in Cork right now
It was a joy to open Instagram earlier this year and see the smiling faces of head chef Rebeca Recarey Sanchez, owner Barbara Nealon, and front of house Emily Hartless celebrating their receipt of a Michelin Bib Gourmand. Seating a mere 13 guests, this little spot sends guests home rollickingly happy, sated on Spanish-influenced small plates and natural wines. Watch out for pop-up pintxos nights.

They’ve barely been open a season and St Francis Provisions in Kinsale is already making major waves in the sandwich loving community. Their hefty Gubbeen pistachio salami baquette involves grilled nectarines (nectarines if you don’t mind… grilled) and fresh rocket on an Arbutus roll. It’s meaty and juicy and salty and you’ll be dreaming about it nightly from the first bite.

A Tour guide to Kinsale
Great decor and really great local produce is at the heart of Saint Francis. The kind of cooking I love – wonderful ingredients cooked simply… and well!. The owners moved home from the food mecca that is San Francisco and the inspiration from their time there is evident in their tasty menu and stylish decor.

Saint Francis Provisions Restaurant, Kinsale
Rocked into Kinsale just as dinner service was ramping up but they were kind enough to find a place for me. Service and food were spectacular as I dined outside in the fresh air. Highly recommend the oysters with chef's dressing, grilled mackerel and port wine ice cream.

Kinsale is a smaller coastal town outside Cork that I love and is known for being a foodie place with great restaurants (Saint Francis Provisions, Man Friday - both very good but you could also just stumble into something that looks good as the town is small).
