What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Fat Vinny offers a compelling mix of traditional Italian flavors with a lively New York diner vibe, receiving praise for generous portions and unique dishes like Salmon Crama and their signature pies. While many appreciate the cozy atmosphere and attentive service, some reviews mention inconsistencies in flavor across pasta dishes and occasional service quirks like strict time limits or dishes arriving at staggered times. Despite minor drawbacks, its popularity and unique offerings make it a worthy destination for Italian food enthusiasts.
"Tho is the first time at this place, love what they form with the decor, open kitchen concept and beautiful bar. The customer services was great, given us the space but very on op of our order. When we order they were be sure that we understood our selection. The cheese ravioli with artichoke was perfect. Of course, being a lover of Gin&Tonic order one but was no to special. Maybe I’d the way here, no ice no garnish, as I already getting it like this on other placers."

"Fat Vinnie is a delightful Italian restaurant where hearty comfort food meets warm, casual vibes. For a non-religious family like mine, it’s a breath of fresh air to enjoy the combination of meat and dairy in one sitting—no restrictions, just pure indulgence. The portions here are generous, the prices are quite reasonable, and the quality consistently satisfies. My eldest son, a self-proclaimed lasagna connoisseur, swears that Fat Vinnie serves up one of the finest plates of layered pasta he’s ever tasted.
Be prepared: there’s usually a queue at the door. On most nights—especially when it’s not Friday evening—it’s wise to make a reservation or brace yourself for a possible wait of 10 to 15 minutes (or more). That said, a bustling entrance often indicates how popular and well-loved a place is. Once inside, you’ll typically find friendly, attentive waitstaff. We did, on one occasion, encounter a server who seemed a bit weary, but that small lapse simply reminded us of the humanity behind the service.
Plates arrive as soon as they’re ready, and if you’re dining with children, you can request that desserts be held back until after the mains—truly a lifesaver for those little ones with a sweet tooth. One caveat to keep in mind: if you’re booking a table for a birthday or any special occasion, be aware that Fat Vinnie may enforce a time limit. We were politely asked to wrap up after about ninety minutes, which felt a little rushed. Still, it’s an understandable policy in a place where quality, affordability, and high demand all play a part in the experience.
If you’re craving robust Italian flavors without fuss—or you simply want to dive into a lasagna that might become your new gold standard—Fat Vinnie is well worth a visit. Buon appetito!"

"Visited here with my wife on Thursday. The first thing I found strange was that I had to explain to the waiter not to bring the first and second courses together. But I understand that not everyone knows this, and that’s fine.
The second issue is that in an "Italian restaurant", there was no balsamic vinegar on the table, but there was Tabasco. I have nothing against Tabasco, but balsamic vinegar is like salt and pepper on the table for dishes with appetizers.
And the third, most important point: it is absolutely unacceptable to serve dishes at different times when there are only two people at the table. It’s not okay for one person to watch the other eat, and then for the other to watch someone else finish their dish. The dishes should come out together. Unless, of course, you have a table of eight — although even in that case, the dishes should still come out together.
The Italian red dry wine was good. The pasta was al dente, just as it should be, and the lasagna was delicious."

Fat Vinny opened in the middle of the Corona crisis and at first only worked on deliveries. A baptism of fire is not easy for restaurants and Italian food in particular. Over time, the restaurant gained a large following, probably due to the combination of traditional Italian cuisine with the New Age of a New York diner.
