In Jerusalem’s Mahane Yehuda market, you will find Halva Kingdom, one of the pillars of the market with more than 100 types of halva, the sesame treat that can be sampled on the premises. Since its opening in 1947, its famous halva recipe comes from Morocco and use Ethiopian Humera sesame seeds.

Café Yom Tov is easily one of the best cafes by the Carmel Market. This grungry, hipster TLV classic has a lovely outdoor seating, while the indoors is tastefully designed – I am very jealous of their vintage Hebrew map of Latin America!. Every time I arrive at Café Yom Tov, I announce to whomever is lucky enough to be having breakfast with me: this time I will order something new.

The outdoor seating is always almost full since it is situated in the narrow streets of the market area. However, the indoors are colourful and comfortable, with exceptional food and great service.

I don’t know about you but sometimes, I just want to sit in a nice environment for breakfast and just be quiet. Yom Tov (good day in English), offers that kind of vibe — it has full outdoor seating in a street where people normally pass by. The passersby won’t bother you that much, I swear.

Here you can have breakfast, lunch, brunch and sip a cocktail in the evening. It’s quite shabby but has its own charm. You can have granola, French toast, sandwiches, and even an Indian pancake.
