What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Hummus Abu Hassan is widely celebrated for serving some of the best hummus in Tel Aviv, with many calling it the best they've ever had. Diners rave about the creamy texture, fresh ingredients, and authentic taste. The bustling, family-run atmosphere and quick, friendly service add to the experience. However, be prepared for potential lines and a fast-paced dining style, as the restaurant is very popular and often sells out.
"Really fantastic service, unbelievably good hummus with fast and attentive service. Despite my love of ful I'd say skip it here. Lovely lemony kick to the hummus."

"This was my favorite food experience in Tel Aviv. Hands down the best hummus in this city. A way to tell if a spot is good is if there’s a queue. Since I’m a solo diner I went in and got seated very fast but with 3 other random gentlemen and it was quite fun because they didn’t speak English so I just got to observe them. How I wish I could understand their conversation.
The owners are running around and you can see the hustle and bustle. One can tell this is a family run business. They take your order really fast you have the option of non spicy, spicy, or mixed hummus. I picked the mix with egg topping as it’s the most popular. It’s paired with bread and some sour pickle dressing and raw Onions. It’s clearly the Old school way of eating it by cleansing your palate with raw onions. The 3 men at my table were eating it raw and I was just thinking to myself maybe there’s mint offered afterwards? Nonetheless, the mixed hummus plate was Exceptional paired with my bread. Such humble and simple recipe yet so filling and delicious.
The owners allowed me to even go in the back and video the process. I couldn’t have been more grateful to the food and the experience.
This is an absolute must try in Tel Aviv"

Five Tel Aviv restaurants to bring a group
Hands down the best hummus in the city, don’t miss Abu Hassan, the go-to place for a plate of creamy chickpea goodness. With towering bowls of hummus and all the pita and fixings to match, this hummus hotspot is the perfect shareable and careable joint for a family outing. Bring the family and an appetite, because the winning plate at this Jaffa establishment is “the triple”: a portion of hummus, “ful” (fava beans), and “masabacha”—an authentic version of hummus, topped off with fresh chickpeas in their natural juices and drizzled with other trimmings.
Where to eat in Tel Aviv, Israel's multicultural food capital
It takes such elephantine quantities to keep up with the fierce demand at Abu Hassan, the renowned hummus empire started by his grandfather in the 1950s. The business has grown so much from its humble food cart origins that 27-year-old Khalil can now sell thousands of plates each day across three locations in the ancient district of Jaffa. And when I visit his Shivtei Israel Street outpost one Friday morning, I arrive at peak hour.
The Best Budget-Friendly Hummus Spots In Tel Aviv
Located in Jaffa, Abu Hassan has been serving their customers the finest hummus available for almost 50 years. Opened by the patriarch of the family, Abu-Hassan, the restaurant is well known throughout Tel Aviv and Israel for its fresh, authentic and exceptional hummus. No one knows what the secret recipe is, but it’s probably to do with the perfect amount of garlic, lemon, and olive oil.

The original patriarch of this outfit sold hummus from a pushcart before opening the shop more than 40 years ago. His descendants make two or three big batches every day, which they serve from 8 a.m. until they run out, usually around 3 p.m.

10 of the best reasons to visit Jaffa
You’ll find three Abu Hassan restaurants in Jaffa, two of which are more like “gas stations” for refueling bellies. A third restaurant sells meat, but the staple meal — the Arabic version of America’s morning porridge — is masabaha ma’a ful, Arabic for the tehina and hummus dish topped with a bit of cooked, mashed fava beans. With a basket of fresh pita bread for dipping, lemon and hot pepper sauce for spicing, and a cold non-alcoholic malt beer for sipping, you’ll look like a local and feel like one, too.
hummus, bourekas and shawarma — interesting routes in Тель-Авиве
Step inside this iconic place and you’ll find yourself at the communal table and will immediately be asked what you prefer - hummus, masabacha (hummus with whole chick peas) or both – in a second your plates will arrive. There is no place to savor the food – eat not chew that's the motto – it is so busy that you are urged to finish the hummus faster in order to let other people sit. Their fame and huge lines exhaust all supplies by 2 pm so better wake up early to get some.

Every city in Israel has a debate over the best hummus in town, and in Tel Aviv-Jaffa, Abu Hassan typically takes the cake among voters. Aside from the famous hummus, Abu Hassan’s menu is generally limited to things that go with hummus, such as matbacha and cooked chickpeas or fava beans, which makes your decision a fairly easy one. Abu Hassan is popular precisely because of its simplicity, so much so that there are days on the weekend that people have to wait for a table.
