This lively neighborhood restaurant and bar hits the spot with refreshing margaritas and authentic, tasty Mexican fare. Kick things off with the refreshing Peruvian Tiradito with spicy yellow pepper salsa before ordering barbacoa tacos and green enchiladas. The restaurant is the brainchild of Ziv Erlich, an Israeli who grew up in Mexico and fell in love with the cuisine.

This sweet mezcal bar has been serving the hipster neighborhood of Florentin for years. It started as a small neighbourhood bar which then began to receive so much love that the owners eventually had to take over the next door shop to expand the much loved establishment. Mezcal has stood the test of time.

There are a few Mexican restaurants in Tel Aviv and I’ve tried them all but my favorite is Mezcal. Mr. Em in Jerusalem and I discovered Mezcal on that magical day where we found The Most Beautiful Sofa in the World and we’ve been smitten ever since. I know I should explore the dining scene in Tel Aviv a little more, branch out and try a place I’ve never been, like that vegan Georgian place everyone raves about, but if I’m with the husband, he will flatly refuse and just want to go grab a seat at the bar at Mezcal, order one item from each menu category (taco, tostada, quesadilla, and sometimes enchilada) and sip a margarita until the food arrives.

Mexican food is a relatively new phenomenon in Tel Aviv over the past 5 years, yet is a natural development generated by a rising Mexican and American ex-pat community. In this promising realm of cuisine, it is Mezcal, owned by of Ziv and Esther Erlich, which claims the culinary throne. Unlike the standard restaurant that caters clearly to the local restaurant crowd, Mezcal seeks to shed light onto the authentic flavors and manners of cooking that have differentiated the Mexican kitchen from its regional counterparts.

Mezcal is probably the most authentic Mexican food you’ll get in Tel Aviv (trust this statement, it comes from a Mexican). Their food is delicious, their salsas are what you want in a salsa, portions are big and price is reasonable. We know how tempted you’ll be to order the tacos, but trust us, try some more exotic dishes, you will love them!

Regularly voted the best Mexican food in Tel Aviv, Mezcal is as close as you can get to abuela’s cooking, without flying her in. Just ask the Mexican olim that have given their stamp of approval. Carne lovers can choose from barbacoa and chorizo potato burritos, while vegans will delight at the nopales, frijoles, and chipotle stuffed options.

With a menu put together by creative Chef Roni Pazhar, the small watering hole’s packed happy hour attracts many anew customer, but they come back for the house-made corn tortilla tacos, ceviche, salsa made from locally grown Mexican chili peppers, churros, and a fabulous selection of flavored margaritas.

Mezcal in Florentin serves some of the best Mexican food in the country. The restaurant bar is very true to its Mexican roots. The decor is fun and colorful, and even the water is served in different tequila bottles.
