In a Mediterranean atmosphere, sitting at blue wooden tables, you can have lunch and dinner almost every hour of the day.?. Another memorable meal was our lunch at Il Riccio, a wonderfully atmospheric beach club above the sea, nearby the Blue Grotto (the island’s main attraction, to be visited by boat, ideally hiring a wooden gozzo – the water was too choppy for my pregnant belly so we did not visit it). It belongs to the Capri Palace hotel but no need to stay there to indulge at the restaurant.

I like the idea of eating on the sea, but I am such a land-lubber that I fear that the reality of comestibles when I am not on terra firma always proves a little too much for me. Still, I do sometimes get quite close. On Capri I dined at a charming restaurant which really did make me feel that I was on a (very, very stable) boat – and it was a delight.

Our first stop was at Il Riccio restaurant for an over the top lunch experience. Located on the cliffside beach club, this Michelin-starred restaurant serves freshly caught seafood, and by fresh, I mean literally caught that morning in the beautiful sea that you can’t take your eyes off of. The views, the food, and the ceramic dishware are all perfect.

Il Riccio’s 00 39 081 837 1380 Michelin star may come as a surprise due to the laid-back beach setting, but after the first mouthful of Chef Salvatore Elefante’s sea urchin spaghetti, you’ll understand. Its ‘Temptation Room’, entirely devoted to Neapolitan sweet confections, gets our vote – its almond-filled Caprese cake is one of the best on the isle.

If the raw starters and spaghetti alle vongole at Il Riccio didn’t blow my mind, the all you can eat dessert room just about tipped me off the edge. This is not a lowbrow buffet I’m talking about but all you can eat refined sweets. No kidding – from chocolate treats to sfogliatella, you name it.

The beachside restaurant of the Capri Palace Hotel on Anacapri is open to the public, so a wonderful way of enjoying a bit of luxury without the price tag of the hotel. Simple seafood salads, delicious pastas and the freshest fish accompanied by gentle sea breezes and spectacular views.

Capri Palace also has the prettiest beach club on the island. We spent the day lounging in the beach chairs then headed up for a late lunch of fresh mozzarella and the grilled catch of the day. We were back for dinner on the evening of our anniversary.

For lunch on Saturday, I booked the Beach Club, which I’ve heard so much about, Il Riccio. The location is superb, the food average. The lobster came from Canada… But the pasta with baby squid and tomatoes was exceptional and well worth the detour!

Not my favourite restaurant on the island, but it really is beautiful as a sea side lounge with the Dior Riviera transformation.
