Reviews Summary

Vicolo Colombina offers a highly regarded traditional Bolognese dining experience with exceptional pasta dishes and delightful desserts. While many praise the impeccable service, beautiful ambiance, and high-quality food, some find the portions small for the price and have noted occasional lapses in attentive service during busy periods.

"A beautifully furnished spot with cozy atmosphere serving classic Italian dishes. We enjoyed all of the classics, tortellini in brodo, lasagna, and ragù, all of which were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The primi piatti (appetisers) were also very delicious, however my favourite was definitely the caramel dessert we had. It was soft and tender yet not overly sweet. I’d highly recommend this place if you’re looking to try classic Italian dishes, just be sure to book in advance because they are usually very busy!"

"An excellent restaurant with delicious food and very friendly and helpful staff. The ambiance is perfect.
The baked onion and the ragu were outstanding, as was all the other food we had! Finished off the meal with a salted caramel digestive which was the highlight of the meal!
We are looking froward to coming back next year when we return to Bologna.
You need to book in advance."

Alex McShane

"We reserved early and were pleased to dine here. The food was excellent. We shared the mortadella and potato soufflé and the tortellini with Parmesan cream sauce. Both delicious. My wife had the eggplant Parmesan, a lighter, grilled version of the classic and I had the cutlet with prosciutto and cheese. Lovely service and delicious food. Make reservations. We saw them turn away many, even in September."

The 20 best restaurants in Bologna

Authenticity is guaranteed with Max Poggi, one of Bologna’s top home-grown chefs, behind this restaurant located on a quiet corner just off central Piazza Maggiore. Neutral white décor and mismatched farmhouse-style plates ensure the focus is on the food, with dishes such as roast rabbit, baked ricotta and fried chicken as well as the ubiquitous tagliatelle served with a luscious ragù. Order a local wine, perhaps a Pignoletto or Albana, the region’s two DOCG certified whites.

Best Pasta in Bologna: 9 Spots for Lasagna, Ragù, Tortellini & More

Located smack in the middle of the medieval center of Bologna toward the terminus of a dead-end alleyway, Vicolo Colombina looks at first like a typical traditional restaurant, but once the plates start hitting your table, you’ll see that the kitchen likes jabbing tradition with a spatula. The Bolognese is the pasta to get here. It comes out on the plates twisted into a pyramid, the homemade tagliatelle wider than what you find at more traditional trattorias and the sauce is richer.

Best Bolognese in Bologna

The oh-so-elegant Vicolo Colombina sits around the corner from Basilica di San Petronio. I’d heard these guys prepared some of the best Bolognese in Bologna, and they’ve certainly earned plenty of awards and recognition to snag them such a title, including a spot on the Michelin guide. It was here that I tried lasagna with a white meat ragù for the first time, and I soon learned that I’d been missing out for quite some time.
