What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Osteria Al Bianchi is lauded for its authentic Lombardian cuisine, particularly dishes like Casoncelli and beef in olive oil, served in a warm, traditional atmosphere. While many praise the simple yet delicious food and friendly staff, some diners have noted issues with language barriers or feeling ignored if not perceived as locals. The unique Saturday fried cod and extensive meat options are also highlights.
"Great food and atmosphere. This is one of the oldest and most authentic restaurants in Brescia. Everything I tried was delicious. I really loved the beef in olive oil and their Casoncelli and other pasta dishes. One dish that really stood out was actually the Lumache (snails) appetizer on a bed of turnip puree sprinkled with shavings of egg yolk - try it and thank me later. Great wine selection, low prices and friendly service. Highly recommended."

"Very nice dishes and desserts recommended by staff . Very local typical food. The meat filled pasta is very delicious. The Sbrisolona cake is must try too. Come on Saturday morning to eat the fried cod fish from 11am to 1pm ."

"They will ignore you if you speak English. We were sat in an empty dining room. They gave us menus and then proceeded to fill the entire room with other diners, take all of their orders, give them their food, and then finally stop ignoring attempts to get their attention to take our order. Don't go here if you aren't a local."

Bergamo and Brescia: an active trip to Italy’s joint capitals of culture | Italy holidays
My favourite meal comes at the end of my trip, at the simple Osteria al Bianchi in Brescia, run by the Masserdotti family since 1976. It might be because you can still buy a glass of wine for €1 (85p) if you drink it standing at the bar; or the fact that it is a humble affair of good ingredients cooked simply, from the malfatti al burro versato (balls of spinach and ricotta in a lemon butter sauce) to the melt-in-the-mouth costata alla griglia (grilled and finely cut ribs) washed down with glasses of sparkling Franciacorta - the grapes for this are grown on the hills between the southern shore of Lake Iseo and Brescia.

What to Do in Brescia
Today you can eat them almost anywhere in more or less reworked versions, or as tradition dictates at Osteria Ai Bianchi, after a Pirlo aperitif (the local version of the Spritz). But in the city, innovation has made its way into places such as Vivace. Here, contemporary cuisine plays uninhibited with elements of the classics, with dishes such as cabbage in oil or lake fish cutlets.
