Reviews Summary

Cibrèo Trattoria offers an authentic taste of traditional Tuscan cuisine, praised for its unique historic dishes and cozy atmosphere. While many enjoy the quality and value, some diners find the portion sizes for main courses to be small for the price, and a few have noted instances of less-than-ideal service.

"Good food spot worth checking out. We got a variety of things, listed below with asterisks to indicate what we enjoyed:

- Tuscan Vegetable and Bread Soup*
- Baked Lasagna with Cibreo Homemade Ragout
- Chicken and Ricotta Meatballs with Tomato Sauce*
- Florentine Style Veal Lampredotto Stew*
- Cibreo Roast Beef*
- Flourless Chocolate Cake"

"Great traditional Tuscan food, with the master touch from Chef Picchi who created this Trattoria. Very unique dishes from Firenze culinary tradition, improved by a great touch of creativity/ but just enough to preserve the original recipes. Great staff, all waiters speak great English… you will greatly enjoy. I am a chef myself and I was born in Firenze, you can trust 100% my comments!"

Giovanni Carapelli

"We had a great quick lunch here. They do not serve food you would find all over Florence for tourists like pizza and pasta. But serve what we feel is more authentic Florentine fare.

The chicken meatballs was the real star of the meal, they were tender and the pomodoro tomato sauce was a great balance of tartness and sweetness. We will definitely visit again just because of this dish!

The veal tripe salad was quite light and refreshing and had a light pickle taste that we liked.

The vegetable lasagne and beef stew compared to the rest of the dishes were quite regular but still really yummy.

All in all it was a wonderful and tasty meal, we will definitely be back the next time we visit Florence!"

The 26 best Florence restaurants

The late, great Fabio Picchi’s celebrated Cibreo is beyond the budget of many pockets, but its more casual off-shoot (aka Cibreino) is a relaxed place in which to enjoy the legacy of Picchi’s famous Florentine-based cooking. White linen is replaced by traditional ‘carta gialla’ (yellow paper) placemats on rustic bare wood, while the service is more casual, and you may have to share a table. Start with a robust ‘minestra di pane’ (bread soup) or lasagna before moving on to chicken and ricotta ‘polpette’ (meatballs) or the famous Roastbeef (sic) braised in white wine.

24 best restaurants in Florence, according to our city expert

Located at the heart of the buzzing Sant’Ambrogio market area, Cibrèo Trattoria — the annex to famous fine-dining Cibrèo next door — occupies a small, brightly lit room; yellow walls are hung with framed posters and prints, and rather cramped bare wood tables are laid with paper placemats and simple settings. The food at Cibreino, as it’s known locally, comes from the same kitchen as its grown-up sister restaurant, but without the hefty price tag. Be prepared to share a table at peak times; this is a popular place.

And the Cibrèo culinary universe is centered in the Santa Croce neighborhood, complete with a restaurant, café, a Tuscan-Asian fusion spot, a culinary academy, and of course the Cibrèo Trattoria. We love the affordable menu of simple Tuscan dishes at the trattoria, so try a glass of house red wine with chicken liver paté to start and lampredotto stew for a fully Florentine meal.

5 Best: Where to eat traditional Tuscan in Florence

trattoria cibreo- I really admire what Fabio Picchi does in Sant’Ambrogio and Florence in general. He does not tout pizza and pasta, and procures extremely, obscure and historic dishes with high quality ingredients. Such as beef cheek (guanciale di manzo) “francesina” (an ancient Tuscan style of re-boiled meat with onions, spoken of in Artusi’s food writings) The name “Cibreo” is the name of an Tuscan dish of Artusi based of chicken crests and livers.

The 9 Best Restaurants in Florence, Italy

Disclaimer: this isn’t your typical white-tablecloth institution. Trattoria Cibrèo is the informal offshoot of chef Fabio Picchi’s epicurean empire, which contains the fine-dining Cibrèo and cabaret-turned-café Teatro del Sale. The walk-in-only spot in the city’s Sant’Ambrogio neighborhood serves similar crowd-pleasers— gran pezzo (roast rack of beef) and coniglio farcito (stuffed rabbit)—as Cibrèo, but won’t bust your bank account.

Expect excellent quality food served simply for a fraction of the price of the Cibrèo restaurant.

Broad beans in summer, Tuscan cabbage in winter, chicken liver, traditional dishes such as stuffed chicken neck... A skilfully crafted blend of nature and tradition for a mouth-watering lunch.
