Reviews Summary

Il Palagio is widely praised for its exceptionally crafted Tuscan dishes, elegant ambiance, and impeccable service, making it a memorable fine dining destination. While most diners rave about the culinary artistry and attentive staff, some find the wine list prohibitively expensive and occasionally question the seasoning or temperature of specific dishes.

"As long as you are well aware of what you're walking into (extremely expensive, very small portioned platings), I think this place is a beautiful experience. The service is spectacular; just a single example-- Since visiting Italy I noticed servers rarely refill water glasses unless asked -- here, mine was not halfway empty before being refilled. The atmosphere is very luxurious, beautiful decor everywhere. Pre fixed 5 course menu, and all the dishes we were served were masterfully crafted with layers of different flavors, was clear why this place received a Michelin star award. I think in the end it was just over 200 euro per person with a couple glasses of wine each, but if you don't mind price it's absolutely worth the trip."

Doug Fischer

"It’s been a week since my visit to Il Palagio and Im still struggling to put the experience into words. Working in the restaurant industry, I was searching for something extraordinary and Il Palagio delivered beyond my expectations.

The tasting menu we took was a masterclass in precision and storytelling, with flavours and presentation that stood out across my entire two week trip in Italy.

Special thanks to Manuel, whose warm service elevated the evening even further along with his wonderful colleagues who made the entire experience for us unforgettable.

If you are in Florence run to Il Palagio. It’s not just dinner, but a memory!!

Extra points for the exceptional cocktails at the bar right next to the restaurant, but that’s a review for another time...

Best regards, until next time!"

Martin Baychev

"My first time in Florence and this place added laurels to this city profoundly! Having been to so many Michelin rated restaurants I wasn't as keen after a long journey; still it exceeded my expectations.
The service and the atmosphere are good as one would expect in a high end restaurant, not much to add here except I found them to be one of the politest in comparison to my experiences from Europe and the US. I picked the "Gherardesca" Tasting Menu mainly because I wanted to try risotto and pasta from the selections. Every single of the 12 (more additions besides the tasting menu) offerings were sensationally delivered. The Amuse-bouche was probably one of the best. Few dishes that stood out were the risotto (beautifully tangy), the cockerel agnolotti (with truffle and divine al dente pasta) and the Lamb (gorgeous sear on the meat) were exquisite. The desserts were good as well, though I feel adding too many raspberries adds excessive sourness to the dessert which isn't my favourite.
I often noticed that most Michelin star places are somehow repetitive with almost identical (french) flavours, but not this one. It stayed true to it's Italian roots and flavours...and that is commendable! Definitely recommend for anyone hoping to get the best of Italian cuisine."

However, beyond Florence there are many, many more Michelin opportunities, so fear not if you had other options of Tuscan holiday destinations in mind. If you would prefer to be by the sea, for example, and were thinking about a vacation rental in Viareggio, you could visit the two-star Piccolo Principe, located on the fifth floor of the Grand Hotel Principe di Piemonte and boasting stunning views, or the one-star Romano, which boasts friendly service and top quality haute cuisine. With a vacation rental in Forte dei Marmi – known as the Miami of Tuscany – you have several options including the two-star Lux Lucis, a minimalist gem that boasts a creative menu, and one-star options like the seafront Bistrot, the 30-year-old Lorenzo, and La Magnolia in the Hotel Byron, which is described as “Tuscan-Campanian fusion" cuisine. Another great seaside option is Il Pellicano with its wonderful terrace overlooking the sea, which is idyllic and romantic and serves Mediterranean dishes that take inspiration from varied cuisines from the likes of Puglia, Tuscany, and more. Just find a vacation rental in the lovely Porto Ercole and drop by.

With the arrival of autumn, the city's most famous Sunday brunch is back, that of the Four Seasons Firenze, a must for those who want to spend a day in merriment.
