You’re in Italy, so of course you need somewhere for pre-dinner drinks and snacks. This former wine cellar turned wine bar in Oltrarno is your spot. The space inside might be limited, but it never feels too overcrowded, and it's about as fun and sceney as Florence gets—couples nudge their way to first base in the corner, and locals spill out of the cave-like dining room into the street, glasses in hand, when there’s no more room.

Though it has only four tables and four small stools at an equally small bar, Il Santino is blessed with a big wine list and superior cheeses, cured meats, and other delicacies. It's the perfect place to have a snack or a light meal.

Il Santino- Another small wine nook in the Oltrarno, I enjoy this cave-like atmosphere, the laid-back energy and the snacks to pair (hand-cut prosciutto on artisanal bread slices from their near-by bakery ‘Sforno, burrata and anchovy plates, etc.) Wines here are always a surprise, consistently rotating from boutique Italian producers and I’ve never been disappointed with the service nor quality experienced at Il Santino. It’s my preferred spot to treat myself to a glass and a read on a weekend afternoon before the 6pm crowd starts to pile in. From whiskey to wine, Il Santino Bevitore is fuss-free, classic “enoteca” (that’s wine bar in Italian), epitomizing the meaning of one. Closing up shop just before midnight, enjoy a couple of glasses of vino before or after your dinner plans, or if you’ve had a massive lunch, it’s also a wonderful option for the night to wine and dine on crudo boards (cold meats and cheese), breads, tartare, and excellent-quality white and reds. The wine list boasts 200 labels while by the glass you’ll always find 6 reds and 6 whites.

Owned by the same owners of the restaurant a few steps away (Osteria del Santo Bevitore), it’s a tiny cave with 3 tables and a small bar.

Literally the “Saint Drinker,” Il Santo Bevitore actually isn’t technically a wine bar, but rather more of a restaurant with a great passion for wine. They also have a bar next door, Il Santino (“the little saint”), and you can grab a seat at either. They love to show off their wine list and pair it with gourmet food, so best to swing by at aperitivo hour.

Il Santino is literally a hole in the wall serving up high quality wines by the glass to locals. It’s hard to get one of their small indoor tables so be prepared to drink your wine curb-side with all the other patrons hoping to get a table as well. They make some of the best snacks and small bites, each developed to drink with a specific wine.

We'd be remiss if we didn't mention two excellent wine bars, both with wonderful, wildly interesting natural wines from Tuscany and beyond, Le Volpi e L’Uva and Il Santino Wine Bar. Bonus: They're less than 10 minutes apart on foot, so you can hit both in the same night if you please. Double bonus: Both serve excellent snacks.

Il Santino is the place I probably go to most often besides the bars in my piazza, it is tiny, tyically filled to the brim with people by 8pm but there is a reason. They serve excellent wine and snack pairings and it is a hidden find for a cozy, tasty spot for lunch. If you come in the evening, go early!.

This is one of our favourite locations situated in the Oltrarno quarter of the city. You can pop in for a light lunch or enjoy a glass of wine in the evening. The place may be tiny, but it is a Florentine hot spot, with people pouring out onto the streets.
