✨ When in Florence… eat soup for breakfast! 🥣🇮🇹 On our trip to Florence, Italy, our sweet server convinced me to try this traditional Tuscan soup called Cantenelli (Cantuccini di Fagioli). He said it was his second favorite—right after his mom’s recipe. 💛 It was so good I had it every morning… and even spooned it over eggs one day (10/10 recommend). The authentic recipe uses red onions, but I love...

Reviews Summary

Ristorante del Fagioli is celebrated for its authentic Tuscan cuisine, with many praising the Bistecca alla Fiorentina and handmade pastas. The atmosphere is consistently described as warm and traditional, embodying a true family-run trattoria experience. While most reviews are glowing, some diners note potential language barriers with the menu and varied experiences with payment methods.

"First of all these people are amazing. I have read all the bad comments about service, non-welcome behavior from server and owners, only cash payments and all. I have to say non of them happened while we were there.

They welcomed us since we entered the restaurant. They have informed us about food and took our order. Even the owner said we ordered too much food and he suggested us to cancel couple of them and we listened and guess what he was right.

The best ribollita i have ever had and believe me i had it every single restaurant that serves ribollita.

Pappa al pomodoro warm, made with fresh tomatoes simple yet perfect

Picci and pappardelle hand made perfectly cooked not heavy and fresh.

And Bistecca alla Fiorentina. Hands down the best Florentin steak. The best. They don’t insist about temperature of the steak. Not rare actually it’s between medium to medium rare not bloody and really quality cut.

We never take a picture in any restaurant we went but this one was exception.

I could give here 10 our of 5 if i can."

"This is your place if you want down to earth, real Italian. No joke, this was the crown Jewel of good old fashion food in the Tuscany Region. It took me 4 days to find a restaurant that served Home made Coniglia,
( rabbit), one of my all time favorites. Florence restaurants rarely offer it, much to my chagrin and surprise. I’m of Portuguese descent and I grew up adoring a well prepared Coniglia.

This one was especially noteworthy for it’s tender meat, likely pan- fried with OO and adorned with Rosemary and perhaps a hint of Bay leaves. It was accompanied by a tasty dish of white beans that I sprinkled some additional OO, ( cant get enough of this staple Italian condiment), and parmesana. The combination brought proverbial tears to my eyes, as I ate and cried for more. 😩

My wife enjoyed here homemade Ravioli, she loved the pear that was incorporated into the ravioli, giving it a uniquely favorable taste.

Almost forgot. They succeeded in making a sometimes trite and admittedly boring appetizer jump off the table with bustling flavor and texture- the always dependable BRUSCHETTA.

Dessert was a delicious Apple Cake, washed down with.fresh decaf Capuccino.

Price: 65 EUROS !!!!!!!
Atmosphere: humble, clean, busy
Service : 7/10

Tips: Reservation

#.1. Preview and choose your meal while you’re in your room- for two reasons, maybe three. Number one the Internet is poor , number two you may not have a waiter that speaks as good English as mine, and number three the menu is entirely in Italian- zero English.

#2 Expect quality, not overpriced and under portioned

#3 Bring cash, no cards

#4. Close your menu when you’re ready to order or they might ignore you for a while. Busy place

#5. Good people. I started off with a smile and a hand shake with the host, maybe owner

#6. If it’s two people, you’re gonna eat under 100 Euros. I was well under. I tipped 20 Euros… ten to the ultra hard working food and drink runner and 10 to the helpful waiter.

Conclusion: go there …. Value…. Taste, quality stand out…. Even Michelin agrees"

"I walked by this Ristorante and after investigating the menu - I can tell you this is real Tuscan food. Simple, well presented and delicious. I was immediately seated and given plenty of attention as requested. The gentleman that states they only accept cash is wrong. I stepped up to the cassa and paid with Apple Pay, no questions or problems. I plan to go back as soon as I can!!!"

One of a dying breed of traditional family-run trattorias still in business in central Florence, dark wood-panelled Del Fagioli is the real deal. The menu of Florentine classics includes fettunta (toasted bread) brushed with garlic and drizzled with tangy olive oil, hearty bread and bean-based ribollita, polpettine fritte (fried meat balls) and succulent bistecca alla Fiorentina, priced (as is usual) by weight and best accompanied by cannellini beans. There are heavy white linen cloths on the tables, white washed walls hung with paintings and the robust house red comes in an old-fashioned straw 'fiasco' flask.

Booking is a must for this fixture in Florence’s dining history, run by the same family since 1966. It is named for a poet at the Medici court, but the menu is crammed with fagioli dishes, evident in choices ranging from ribollita soup, chickpea pancakes and a white-bean side dish to accompany steak. Everything is prepared from scratch in the morning and it’s open for lunch and dinner Monday to Friday.

5 Best: Where to eat traditional Tuscan in Florence

ristorante del fagioli- I think I Latini gets way too much cred and much rather put my money with these badass guys. As I placed in a recent article I did for Conde Nast, their bistecca fiorentina (sourced from the heritage chianina breed) is one of the best in town with service, wise wine list and soul to match. Other reasons why I love them: hand written menu, at least one grandpa in the kitchen and where you can actually get seasonal vegetables, delicious potatoes and a salad you actually look forward to eating.

Florentine Steak: The History, The Tradition and Where to Eat it

Corso dei Tintori, 47rwww.facebook.com/pages/Ristorante-del-Fagioli/. One of the older trattorias in the city, Ristorante del Fagioli is, in the words of Italian food maven Elizabeth Minchilli “one of those Italian restaurants you’re always hoping to find.” It offers the classic Florentine favorites (along with an extensive grill selection, the star of which is of course the steak), a hand-written menu of the day on a chalkboard and an unassuming atmosphere that will make you feel right at home.
